Just ordered Xigmatek SD964 push/pull fan

I pretty much bought this as an impulse buy. I am going to postpone my liquid cooling project and go for air. I need the difference in money for school instead. Since it was on impulse, is the push/pull version better than the big brother Single fan S1283?

S1283 should be much better...8mm pipes, 12cm fan.

SD964 is a pretty lowend cooler.

so the S1283 single fan is better than a push pull variant of the SD964? this

O well, I don't really plan on overclocking really high at the moment, I just needed something better than the stock cooler. The Q9550 will most likely OC to 3.0ghz on stock voltages, by just changing the fsb.

At similar noise levels...the S1283 is about 8C better according to this review:

    http://www.gamezoom.net/artikel/show/0,,2,18619.html

(next page shows noise...22dB for the S1283 at full speed, 23dB for the SD964 at low speed, and 32dB for the SD964 at high speed)

As for sound, if they are too loud I will switch them with Noiseblocker fans. As for temp, I doubt i will hit load temps with prime95/intelburntest. The most intense game I will be playing will most likely be Left4Dead or UT3. So yea, I translated the page, but it didn't tell me if it was the dual fan variant I linked earlier.

Yeah, you'll be fine if that's most CPU intensive thing you do

It is the dual version SD964...D9 = Dual 90mm.

Is there a push/pull variant of the S1283 without mods?

Stupid question but, one fan is like an intake and the other is like an exhaust right?

I made my own push-pull S1283. 60C on overclocked quad (3.3Ghz), 20-25C ambient. Haven't gotten the backplate yet because that computer is having massive problems (unrelated) so I'm sure it would be better after I installed that. Fans are: Stock fan pulling, Zalman ZM-F3 Pushing. I'll get around to getting two Yate loons eventually though.

The Xigmatek HDT-S1283 push/pull is meant to be as good as the Noctua / Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme - I have read reviews on loads of websites.

    Have you tested it yet?

Making the transition from Excel 2008 to Excel 2007 and 2007 doesn't have a "Save As Picture" option for charts....so everything will look a little different than it used to

Lapped TRUECu was included to roughly show how a TRUE scales with lapping (since I don't have a stock TRUE).

    vapor, slighting off topic.

how much torque do you think is needed to hardmount the S1283?
also do you have a hardmount vs non test?

After seeing that a hardmount was a few C better on the S1284EE, I just went straight to hardmount on the S1283. I think the general improvement that people are reporting are in the 2-5C range

Because the bracket was perpetually OOS when I was doing those tests, I just removed the pushpins and used the screws from a TRUE. Seemed to work well

only thing im worried about is even pressure, i have 2 s1283's and one of them already has dents on the base from the IHS because of me my own screws and springs. (no limits)

    I wouldn't worry about dents

If you're really really concerned about getting even pressure, pick up either the Thermalright LGA775 mounting (and just use the screws and backplate) or the Xigmatek Crossbow
