The EVGA GTX 285 SSC has a stock shader speed of 1584mhz, and a core speed of 702mhz, allowing it to compete against the 4870x2 in a few titles.

Temps don't seem to be improved too much, but I suspect the reviewer was using the default fan speed of 40%.

Allowing that, high temps are bound to occur during load, especially if overclocking.
So some games in the review have average min and max fps at the bottom but they leave out the 4870x2 and the GTX 280 seems odd

Well, my eVGA GTX 285 vanilla arrived today. Max overclocks are 738c/1620s/1476m. Not bad at all considering it overclocks past SSC speeds for $50 less. This is completely artifact free and stable as a rock. I could bench at higher shader and memory speeds here and there on some benches but it would crash or artifact in others and that's completely useless if you can't use it in all applications

Anybody found out why the EVGA SSC GTX285 can be clocked higher than other brands?

    Is it the BIOS?

    Is it different hardware?

Agressive speed binning. Its not the brand per se, just the way they allocate their model #s. You could potentially get SSC like results from any other brand that doesnt offer as many models, it just wont be a sure thing.

I would also like to see Napalms vmods! pics!

Well you got me there, what's speed binning?

And it's certain they use no higher volt in BIOS?

eVGA DOES use a higher voltage BIOS on this card. And they may bin them too, but the BIOS is defintely different. This has been covered many times...
I was messing with my vanilla eVGA 285 last nuight and my OC attempt are nowhere near the SSC OC attempts I've seen.

    What's speed binning!!!

I googled but found only scientific mumbojumbo...

    pls. the simple explanation...

    never mind, i found it...

Speed binning is when memory manufactures test memory modules for specific speeds and timming capabilities and bins them accordingly.

When the manufacturer tests the yield on each chip, some obviously are better than others. The better ones get marked and "binned" to be given to the folks like eVGA to make "SSC" cards out of. Intel does the same thing with their Extreme CPUs...

Proof? I flashed my BFG card with the eVGA SSC BIOS and saw 0 improvement whatsoever. All I've seen is speculation.

Looks like NapalmV5's card also has the same 4808 pcb as the other brands and not the 4908 shown at Newegg for all EVGA's....so nothing conclusive there.

How do you know Newegg only has 4908 PCBs? I don't think it should matter...I'm sure SSC cards in general will clock very high.

BFG GTX285 OCX 1GB Video Card Review
With the Nvidia GTX 285 going through the usual motions of launch we thought it was time to post yet another review of this card. This time we will be looking at BFG's GTX 285 OCX which is currently the highest-clocked GTX 285 available.

from this review...http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...ews/bfggtx285/ the 285 in most is not so good underneath the 4850!!! 295 and 4870x2 is stil the daddy really all this time NV what a joke! can come up with a card to easily beat the 4870x2 295 ahead but not by that much.

That's what the pictures show at Newegg, however there's no way to determine where those pics actually came from. Could have been sent to the them from eVGA.

My 285 is also a 4808, and overclocks well past SSC speeds.

I can't comprehend your post since the grammar is so poor but the 285 is the king of single GPU cards at the moment.
