    Core i7 965 Meets 2x 4870X2 and Phase Change

Here an update from the following link.

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...99&postcount=1

The last couple of months I have tested a lot with the i7, 2x 4870X2 and mine SS Phase Change.
In these months I have learned a lot from the i7.

I had a couple of goals and actualy did not want to post before I had archive them.
There was just one goal I could not realize with the current hardware, but still I want to share mine results.

    Setup :
    - Asus Rampage Extreme II
    - Intel i7 965 XE ES
    - Dual Channel setup : OCZ DDR3 FLEX 2 PC2000 CL8 /
    - Triple Channel setup : OCZ DDR3 FLEX 2 PC2000 CL8 + 1x OCZ DDR3 Plat PC1800 CL8
    - 2x Asus ATI 4870X2 met default biossen
    - 1000 Watt PC Power & Cooling
    - 850 Watt PC Power & Cooling
    - Single Stage Phase Change
    - 2x modded Airco's in cascade

    The goals where :
    3DMark Vantage : 27K
    3DMark 2003 : 142K
    3DMark 2005 : 42K
    3DMark 2006 : 32K
    Aquamark : 327K

Like I already mention, there was one goal I could not archive and that was 3DMark 2006, although there is still some room for improvement.
But here are the score I have reached with this setup.

    3DMark Vantage : P28210

    3DMark 2003 : 148208

    3DMark 2005 : 42055

    3DMark 2006 : 31667

    Aquamark : 336478

The scores, accept Aquamark, are done with relative low memory speed, so I should be able to improve the score for all the 3Dmarks.
For Aquamark I had used a new bios, which gave me more memory speed, but the max was 1050Mhz cl8 (in dual channel).
Above 1050Mhz, the system is just unstable in 2D and 3D and no matter what, I’am not able to go higher on this board.

    Next steps :
First of all I will try to improve the scores of all the 3DMarks.
After that I will go further with just one 4870X2 card an finally I will do some 2D Benchmarks like Superpi, Pifast, Wprime and Cinebench.
And if I have some time, I will post mine bios settings here later on.
I will keep this thread as much as possible up to date.

Nice results man. Vista is not very AM3 friendly, and probably knocking a good 60-80k off of your score though.

Indeed, Vista and AM3 are not best friends, but with XP you can not use Crossfire, so you need Vista.

@OldScarface - Your CPU score is quite low. I run at 35*126 (4.41 GHz on Water) and score almost 7800 with Vista.

If you didn't disable C1E, do that!

7400 cpu score is actually pretty good for HT disabled, gain more performance on the video at the other tests too. cpu score counts less at 2006 final score.

    You are correct.

I just looked at the first screen shot of when Vantage was ran. There HT was enabled so I assumed all Benchmarks were conducted with HT on.

Indeed, like Rol-Co mentioned when you use HT, the CPU-score is higher, but your max overclock is not that high than when you diable HT.
For me when I disable the HT, the total score for 3DMark 2006 is better than when I had HT enabled.

If I disable my HT I can only run at 4.50 on water and my scores are lower in 3DMark06.

    Also running at 35 x 126 (127 sometimes) at 4.41-4.45 Ghz provides much better SM 2.0 and 3.0 scores than running at 22 x 201 (4.42 GHz).

Everything I compare at 4.4 GHz performs better at a Lower BClock and a Higher CPU multi than a High BClock and a lower multi.

I think your phase is too cold.
I've found under LN2 I can't use vcore higher than 1.6, but on DICE I can boot fine up to 1.7125. So on LN2 I was only able to do around 4.6 vantage stable, whereas on DICE last night I got 4.83 vantage stable at 1.66v.
You may not be having the same voltage behaviour I do, but just something to try.
