    Hmmm....

Which is the "better" controller - the 9260-8i, the 9261-8i or the 9750-8i?

Their feature list seems to be very similar. The 9750-8i supports up to 96 devices using expanders, and 9260-8i/9261-8i "only" 32 devices. But who needs more than 32 internal devices? Other than that, there's only some (perhaps minor?) differences (SafeStore Encryption Services and hot-spare possibilities).

    The 9260's have a 800mhz processor and 512MB of 800mhz of ddr2, these don't list any cache/cache speed and have a 533mhz processor.

9240 uses system ram as cache so it has no onboard cache. keeps costs low.

The number of drives the controller can "actually" support isn't representative of those numbers. Rather, those numbers are for the benefit of market segmentation from a business perspective. The controllers are all supposed to support the standard 256 devices with expanders.

FYI, that's from my 3ware/LSI FAE contact.
