    i pulled my true to get a look at the stepping, the cellphone pics I took before i installed the chip the first time weren't good enough to see it

    CACVC AC 0850BPDW
    http://www.daellum67.com/IMG_1409.JPG (used an SLR this time)

    it's acting very strangely atm, i am able to run vantage and validate at 257x15 (3.855) but bsod's before the windows loading bar comes up at 258x15. it was loading at 55C during the vantage run.
    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=489057

    my board wont boot at all if i try to give the chip more than 1.525 vcore, and after droop this limits me to 1.5v real

    im going to try an updated bios and see if this helps my clocking any

    That's Core i7 territory man!
    I'm running with some very good water cooling, and if this is achievable, I have to rethink my whole workstation upgrade!

    the suicide table is more of a table for chips without 2 hour prime or one hour occt. so its not confirmed if those chips are completely stable.

    im checking on that now

    dfi's site is back up for me
    edit: that bios raised my max validation. dont know the new max yet, but the old one was 3.85 on 11/25/08 bios. just got into windows at 3.9 and its stable enough to make this post.

    with luck it'll raise my max stable OC or at the very least allow me to reduce vcore.

    Ok i'm all up and running just installing system mechanic so i can easily backup the registry in case of failed OC's.

    Curiosity why does AOD not start due to not having an AMD cpu installed?

    790gx board, IIRC everything is set to auto for now. Ran as administrator and the whole 9 yards.......beats me. Just want to monitor temps

    I'll check out that beta BIOS later but I'm not expecting big things. Not until they fix that voltage table issue Brother Esau was talking about.

    Anyone know about the A79A-S and a beta bios? I'm tired of guessing what my multiplier is going to be by using HEX in the bios!

    @BertM: Ok, I'll update it to reflect this.

    @NCspecV81: The latest (P06) BIOS for the A79A-S still shows hex in BIOS.

    I don't know for sure that this chart is accurate, but here's how it should correspond:

    8 = 4x
    9 = 4.5x
    A = 5x
    B = 5.5x
    C = 6x
    D = 6.5x
    E = 7x
    F = 7.5x
    10 = 8x
    11 = 8.5x
    12 = 9x
    13 = 9.5x
    14 = 10x
    15 = 10.5x
    16 = 11x
    17 = 11.5x
    18 = 12x
    19 = 12.5x
    1A = 13x
    1B = 13.5x
    1C = 14x
    1D = 14.5x
    1E = 15x
    1F = 15.5x
    20 = 16x
    21 = 16.5x
    22 = 17x
    23 = 17.5x
    24 = 18x
    25 = 18.5x
    26 = 19x
    27 = 19.5x
    28 = 20x
    29 = 20.5x
    2A = 21x
    2B = 21.5x
    2C = 22x
    2D = 22.5x
    2E = 23x
    2F = 23.5x
    30 = 24x
    Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
    As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
    Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
    When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
    When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
    When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

    Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
    You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

    And in the A79A-S bios 14 gives me 18x for me. (But then so does 15 and 16 and 17... I think it is "capped" at 18x in the bios for the P06 bios.)

    Those with the Foxconn mobo's, did it come with the P06 bios, or would I have to get my hands on another AM2 cpu to update the bios to support the 940?

    The Foxconn works just fine without P06. Your CPU will show up as unknown but it'll operate just fine and clock just as well. So, I'd recommend you boot up with your 940, flash, and then go on.
