Well, I got my replacement CPU yesterday morning, it is batch 3921A624.

My temps are now back to normal thankfully, and it is currently o/ced to 4GHz and is perfectly stable.

Idle temps are 36c, and full load they are 80c on the hottest core, this is with my TRUE with one Xigmatek fan installed..

I am trying to get it o/ced to 4.2GHz atm, but I am having difficulty getting it stable, LinX keeps BSOD'ing with stock code 0x00000124, I read somewhere that this is caused by not having enough QPI voltage, so I am playing around with that atm..

My 2nd chip for my fiancees i7 build should be arriving here today as well, so I will see how good that one is so that I can keep the best one for myself!!

@oggie, I think some people disable HT so that they can get bigger overclocks, and I think that it also requires less Vcore and they don't run as hot neither.

@ Bei Fei, that is extremely low Vcore for 4.5GHz man, is this stable????

I have 3907A360 and also got it perfect at 4.0 GHz but to get it stable at 4.2 i need 1.37v so not worth it.
Regarding error ....124 - yes thats QPI voltage error

Now about HT, if i use my pc mainly for gaming is it worth it having lower (4.0GHz) speed with HT on or should i try higher speeds with HT off
Also i know most games/applications use first 2 cores, is there a way of assigning other cores to run things such as antivirus progrems

I haven't tested this board much. I played COD4 and CS:S for a few hours on that voltage. I am not positive it would be prime for any amount of time though.

I wonder if anyone can answer my question?

I just got my second i920 delivered about 2 minutes ago, and I checked the batch number, and it is identical to my chip I got yesterday..

I thought that the last three digits after the letter would be unique to each chip, but they are both 3921A624..

    Is this normal??

I didn't think that you could get two chips with identical batch numbers like this, I thought it was only the first part that could be the same, like 3921A and then the last three numbers would be different for each chip...

Batch is just some code number for a large number of chips made at the same time on some fab etc. So quite a few CPUs share the same batch number.

@Blunt, what is your CPU VID? you can check it in the bios behind the VCORE

4GHz 191x21@1.264v can you please post full template for all settings?

    Thanks

Need some help and advice here guys.

I have my i7 920 DO overclocked to 4305 stable. System is per sig.

    Here are my settings:
    Multi 20 Turbo enabled
    bclk 205
    vCore 1.44
    Qpi/vtt 1.455
    CPU pll 1.84
    PCIE auto
    QPI pll 1.26
    IOH Core 1.24
    ICH i/o auto
    ICH Core auto
    vDimm 1.66

I would like to get to 4400 but the vcore is already about as much as I want to try. It seems to me that I have too much vcore for a DO.
I would appreciate any suggestions to get to 4400 at about the same vcore as I am at now. Am I where this chip is going to go or are there settings that I am missing that will get me higher without cooking something? My load temps are ~80c now. I am upgrading to a heatkiller which should give me a couple of degrees.
    I will appreciate any help.

@phsinc, I will get a profile of my BIOS for you later on, I don't suppose you have a link to that page that has the BIOS layout, and I can just choose the settings from drop down menus, it is pretty much just like my exact BIOS screens, and it allows me to set it the way my real BIOS is set???

    Here you go mate.

Hope this helps you out man.

p.s. if there are any other screens you would like me to give you, just ask.

I notice something strange though with my Vcore, I can set it anywhere from where it is in these screens to 1.2914v, and CPUZ gives me the same reading of 1.264v???

Thanks mate, I assume you used 16x uncore?

Also what is the Normal Vcore your bios shows?

1.22500v is what it says in the BIOS for normal Vcore.

And yes 16x Uncore is what I have set mine to.

This chip has much higher VID than the chip that it replaced, my last one was 1.19500v, but it was damaged, the idle temps of that last chip at stock frequency were 17c higher than the idle temps of this chip when it is O/Ced to 4GHz!!! :O

Hey genec you should try raising your nb ioh voltage a tad, also a trick is to set a lower multiplier to boot cause as soon as windows loads it goes to 21. Also try upping the pci-e clock a few to say 105-110

Thanks, I will give those a try. My understaning is that the Gigabyte boards will not allow PCIE over 103 but I will take a look.
