This was a very early on assumption of the i7's but about around a month ago, people were also finding that 36A's and 41A's were also great clockers with low voltage.

3836B043 is a chip I and another person on this forum has, and they are not that great as the earlier B chips.

UPDATE: my chip is now stable @ previously posted settings but @ 182x21 for a final clock of 3822mhz @ the same voltages of 1.27v
I have not tried further lol....

I think you are wrong, I'm running this chip at 4ghz with 1.31vcore, so it's an excellent oc'er, imho.

I haven't tried with lower VTT/PLL voltages, when i'll have some spare time i'll test that too.

I picked up a 3841A437 tonight. I only see one other 384 on this thread and it took 1.4v to do 4ghz... is this a fairly new batch or something?

QPI is 1.3v, CPU PLL 1.8, CPU VTT is 1.36, and CPU itself shows as 1.312 in cpu-z (not sure if I can believe it, since it does not change from idle to load, although rarely under load it drops momentarily to 1.296). I have a biostar mobo and vcore is only set relative to some value, don't know what that is, probably stock voltage or something, in my case it takes +0.08v. For the same reason, I don't have any control over uncore, according to memset it's 16x, and memory I keep at 2:8, all automatic timings, 1.64vimm. Last, and most important, cpu is at 21x and 191bclk, and not 200x20, the latter is completely unstable. Hope this will help you to oc' your cpu to 4ghz as well

Ok, the best i can is 19x200 @ 1.28v core and 1.28 qpi voltage. Everything else is auto.

Is there any way to get lower vcores? I mean, with what settings can i compensate a lower vcore? I see people getting 3.8 with vcore values lower than 1.28 but at the same time i'm really noob at Oc'ing so i don't know what settings to change in order to compensate lower vcore values.

    My Batch # 3839A569 and i'm using a P6T Deluxe with latest bios ( 1102 ) and 6Gb of Dominators 1600 (C8 ).

Oh...your ass is grass and I've got the weed-whacker.

No HT, and no more than 3400Mhz on the Uncore :/
These two fonctionnalities of the Nehalem need more than air cooling on the cpu i guess

Still no HT and still again not more than 3400Mhz uncore:

This OCcct graph shows the hotest af all cores.

I got three 3841A43x from amazon.com. Amazon charges a little more, but worth it because of their return policy in case you get a weak chip. How did the chips do? All were duds.

I guess we'll have to see

I tend to get pretty lucky with chips or i know what im doing, i can't really tell. I had one of the best e8400s around (did 4ghz stable damn near stock volts, benched at 4.5, all on air). did you try different motherboards?

and what is dud by your definition? i'm just wanting a 4ghz 24/7 overclock on around 1.4v tops...

Total bummer. 3841A505 took me up to 3.6Ghz on stock voltage AND cooling. Goes further then that as well, but temps break into the lower 70's under load at that point so I give up there and stay with 3.6 for now.

Here are my first results on a 3836A875 batch. I think it does a damn well job considering that I didn't fiddle around much with the settings. I've everything on some reference voltages and started OC'ing (all within Intel specs). My current max. RAM speed with these voltages and timings is around 1780Mhz. With RAM at 1720 like in screenshot I'm still able to tighten timings and lower some voltages. Voltages used in bios:

    Vcore: 1.35v
    CPU PLL: 1.90v
    QPI/DRAM: 1.35v
    vDRAM: 1.64v
    CPU spread spectrum disabled
    PCIE spread spectrum disabled
    Everything else on AUTO

    HT disabled
    Turbomode disabled

On Anandtech they told in an article that batch 3835, 3836 and 3841 are the better OC batches. So you could be lucky, I gues.

Some jackass decided to screw around with the spreadsheet, so I uploaded the one from my hd again. If it gets messed up again, I just won't bother with this anymore. And for those still posting your results, don't forget to enter it into the spreadsheet if you want it to be included in the list on the front page. http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?k..._RqTL5QA&hl=en

You're within a good range for benching and stability testing. These chips can take a lot of heat, but I'm personally trying to stay ~75°C load for 24/7 use. Right now, this has limited me to 3.6GHz on stock cooling, but once my damn retention clip arrives from the States so that I can hook up my Vendetta 2, I expect I'll be able to do ~4.0GHz with those temps. My chip will do 4.0GHz+ @ ~1.3V load, but my temps were ~90C° after an hour of Prime.
