    [Team.AU]Gigabyte X58-UD5 Core i7 920 Testing Frozen SS

Hey guys little Frozen SS cooling action I feel sorry for the poor i7 920

    Test Configuration:
    • Gigabyte X58-UD5 F4 bios
    • Intel Core i7 920 retail chip 3837A902
    • 3x1GB 1800MHz CAS7D DDR3 Corsair Dominators
    • 1GB Gigabyte GTX280 Graphics Card (AIR)
    • 1000W Silver Stone PSU
    • Windows XP Pro 32bit SP2

Insulating with faber-Castell Art erasers ensured a air tight socket. My first run with normal insulation I got some condensation inside the socket after a few hours The 1366 socket is a lot bigger and its very hard to insulate with the erasers to ensure the socket is air tight.

Little faber-Castell Art erasers around the cpu head enclosure to ensure a air tight seal to the other service

And some pics of the Frozen SS im in the middle of tunning, these i7 cpu’s are heat monsters running hyper threading.

Wprime 1024Mb runs the PC was measuring 455w power draw from the mains socket using 1.48v @4434MHz 186sec. Hyper threading turned off power draw was only 370W and a fair bit slower even with the higher clocks: 4576Mhz @1.53v 260sec.

For 3dmark similar thing, a lot hotter running hyperthreading but not much difference in score overall. Hyperthreading gave a better result at a lower overclock.

    hey kayl
    try using F4f bios
i find it easy to OC and its very efficient once you start tightening all the screws

also eva has a nifty trick for these 920s for max frequency and some superpi damage..might want to check out his thread

gotchya on wprime by a few points with 300mhz less

Regardless your 920 is a fine example. 4.6ghz less than 1.5v is insane.
