    Question iPod iTouch: experience/comments/pro-negatives....

I've been itching to get this toy ever since wife gave me $200.
Plus that my workplace is now offering free-WIFI.

I pretty much destroyed my iPod due to constant power/battery problems.

So I'm fielding any comments, suggestions, pros & cons, apps/games suggestions, Apple Extra Warranty

    advance thanks

i love my touch, i think its great and all seeing as it uses basically the same software as the iponhe there are lots and lots of app, and all free aslong as your willing to jailbreak it like i have done, i use my ipod ALOT and occosionally it does freeze up, but nothing a re-boot cant fix, battery life is pretty ok too at about 3-3.5hrs of watching videos, my only slight regret is that i didnt buy the iphone so that i dont have to carry the ipod + my phone everywhere

I like mine. Internet is nice addition, plus the 2nd revision has the volume button on it. Speaker could be louder, but not really a complaint.

    without jailbreak
...are there still apps for free?...I've read too many iTouch turning brick due to jailbreak and firmware when synching with iTunes.
    Is it true?
do you recommend AppleCare Extra Warranty?

@[cTx]Riggs, how's the Safari browsing on those free WIFI spots (if you tried it) vs those from your own WIFI at home

    advance thanks

yeah there are free apps, topple and finger maze are dope.

I just got one for christmas and love it. Sounds way better through the headphones than my nano did. Plus AIM at work is nice, makes the day go faster. Just tell them its your phone

Just bought me a 1st gen 32 gig, I just couldnt resist it. If you jailbreak it, then it's good. If you keep it on the official firmwares, forget it.

the firmware isnt bad, its good aslong as you are willing to pay for apps, there are free apps on the app store but alot of them are just trail or demo versions of larger apps, if you do jailbreak it it does void your warantee so id go with a no to the extra apple warantee, i have the 1st gen one and am on 2.0.1 firmware(jailbroken), the gyroscope feature is just awesome its really cool that the ipod knows weather its vertical or horozontal, its so handy for watching my films too, just sync them onto it and watch them when i get bored, and i have the nes, snes, gba, gba:a emulators on my touch will all the roms which is also pretty dam handy when im bored

It's just software used to communicate so I don't see how it can void the warranty. I like it because it doesn't infect your system and install unwanted garbage like iTunes does. It is a huge PIA at times though because it's in chinese (you can switch to english) and needs loads of updating to work properly.

I love my Touch. Best single device I've purchased. I rarely even use it for music, just games and WiFi while while in downtime at work. And you can't jailbreak the 2nd generation Touches.

If you try and jailbreak wouldn't that void the warranty? In general I think warranties are a rip so long as you take care of your stuff.

+1 on Jailbreaking. It really couldn't be easier, plus you can actually install themes to make your ipod look cool. There are some decent free apps from the app store but most really aren't all that great.

Other than being a little ram hungry when using the coverflow feature, there really isn't much wrong with it IMO

i dont like that you have to have ur videos in mp4 for itunes, i dont like that my ipod syncs everytime i plug it in (thers proberly a way to turn this off, anyone know ??), I also dont like that you have to sync a whole library and not just put an extra few songs on it, like if i was at my m8s house and he had a couple of tracks i wanted, and i dont like that you cant retrieve files from it, last month my hdd died, lost all my music and was just annoyed that i couldnt get the music from my touch and put it back onto my pc....

For syncing, yes there is a way, check your iPods settings in iTunes when you plug it in. And your other issue, I've been able to do that before but it's been a while sence I've done that. Something with making it only sync with a certain playlist. Google it

Apple Update just installed Safari on my PC yet again the other day. I've uninstalled it three times so far and had to disable apple update.
