Now that Intel's got an IMC as well, it strikes me that AMD is no longer able to assume better memory performance based solely on that fact. Phenom II is looking fabulous from what I've seen thus far (sadly, I just upgraded my Athlon X2 system to an Intel E8400, but I hope to put together a Phenom II some time in the next year or so), and of course DDR3 is more expensive than DDR2.

Between Triple Channel, DDR3, IMC, etc... the usual battlefield of choice for AMD is looking less and less certain?

Found this roadmap image on Anandtech:

Just per curiosity, as I'm not familiar with the chipset development process, would it be possible for nVidia to throw together a DDR3 chipset for the PII while AMD is still dragging its feet? Reverse of the Intel process, of course, but if at all possible from a third-party chipset developer, it seems like it would make a huge amount of sense?

EDIT: Bah, just saw a thread earlier posting about a new board with DDR3 for Phenom, so I'm a week too late.
