    Talking i7 920 3836A756 @4610Mhz AIR - DFI UT X58-T3EH8

    Finally took off the training wheels for DFI UT X58-T3EH8 after having the motherboard for past 7 days, I'm starting to get the hang of things

    My first Super Pi 32M bench at sub 8min with Core i7 3836A756 on Thermalright Ultra 120 air cooling!

    Had to turn off Hyperthreading to reduce the heat output and had to go back to dual channel kit, 2x1GB Corsair DDR3-2133C9DF Dominators as it's only memory I have capable of up to DDR3-2200Mhz Super Pi 32M stable.

    With HT off, load temps were around 74-86C. Powermate wattage meter read ~290 watts idle and 305 watts load for Super Pi. I tried running Everest benchmark report (all tests) and measured ~530 watts load drawn from the wall but system rebooted @4610Mhz

    For comparisons sake, at 20x133 = 2.666Ghz stock, Powermate wattage meter reads around 125 watts idle with FX5200 PCI video card installed.

    Room temp = 24.5C

    System specs
    • Intel Core i7 920 3836A756
    • Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme + LGA1366 Bolt Thru kit + 2x 120x38mm Scythe UltraKaze 2000rpm 87cfm fans in push/pull
    • DFI LP UT X58-T3EH8 R.A51 - initial first release 12/18 bios
    • 128MB Gainward FX5200 PCI
    • 2x1GB Corsair TW3X2G2133C9DF Dominator 9-9-9-24 at 2.0v rated (Samsung ICs)
    • Ram cooling: 3x 60x25mm Sunon 23.5cfm Maglev fans
    • 750GB Samsung HD753LJ
    • Pioneer DVD-RW
    • 1KW Corsair HX1000 psu
    • WinXP Pro SP3 nLite fully updated

    @4554Mhz

    First 32M run 21x217BCLK - so close to sub 8min!

    @4610Mhz

    I nearly managed to boot into windows to take screen shot at 21x221 = 4638Mhz, but guess either heat or BCLK ceiling was being reached. So settled for 21x220 = 4610Mhz

    hehe, nice work George. time to get over to the LCC thread and get a polished 7m 59.xxx posted there. whats sad is that you are pretty much maxing that chip out on air...for 32M at least
    i don't quote in my signature, but best WR ever...

    Wonder if i disable 3 cores set Turbo on and use 22x multi will push me further

    Pretty impressive.. why does it seem the 920's are the best clockers? Better than most 965 and certainly better than the 940's.. I got a 940 and it sucks ass.

    Great 920 you got there Eva I wonder how having a third dimm would affect your 32M times?

    hard to say why, my 920 similar 3836A7** batch as Team Japan's 965s that do 5.2+ ghz so maybe there's a trend ?

    don't have 3x HCF0 triple channel to run, but compared to my 3x Micron D9GTR around 3 seconds diff ??

    hey george test '03 and '05 too if you can

    plus your subtimings are much different between the setups...it will impact on 32M for sure

    The 920 constraint is memory? Does that mean if I'm on water I really need a 940?

    Impressive I must say, quesiton about 920's, Batch B OCs better than Batch A? or both batches have the same change to OC well? ive seen batch B ocing very good with very low vcore... not sure about A.

    Look at the change in L3 performance between 2x1gb and 3x1gb.

    Will do later on, I'll have to install vista as well so can do 3d vantage/wprime, pcmark05 etc

    thanks, no access to LN2/DI and never used them before, progression will be from air to water later on - want to see what I can do on air first as i have a 2nd identical batch i7 920 3836A756 to test as well

    constrained by bclock/qpi frequency and as to pi efficiency by locked cpu multiplier, so if you want 4.6-4.9+ghz probably need 940 right now. Although Hazzan has posted DFI UT X58-T3EH8 results with up to 232bclk which on 920 would mean >4.8ghz!

    thanks.. definitely happy that i can hit 4.6ghz on air - should do some nice damage on hwbot with the gpus I have on hand

    i've seen some nice B batches with low volt prime stable, but whether that translates to high benchable clocks not sure. i.e. some 965 can't do 4.6ghz even on sub zero cooling!

    Good job bro
    Nice to see my future mobo in action
    Can I run 920 @ 4Ghz 24X7 with ultra120 & 2XNoctua 1300rpm?
    I know it depends on batch and etc. but I asked in the worst case of CPU
    And 1 more question
    What Batch would you advise to buy?

    ah the waiting is pain, i had my 2x i7 920s for nearly 2 weeks before first X58 board arrived = DFI UT X58-T3EH8

    Maybe good things do come to those that wait

    only way is to test and find out for yourself some of the 38**B*** batches are doing 4ghz at 1.22-1.28v prime so maybe possible all depends on room ambients

    thanks PC, memtest (currently at 22x207bclk) and going to pi 32m bench with 22x multi to see how things go

    i7 920 @22x CPU Multiplier Tests

    Looks like there's more uses for Intel's Turbo mode on DFI UT X58-T3EH8 especially for single threaded benchmark/apps like Super Pi. In bios set Turbo enabled, EIST enabled, Set to 1 core enabled and you have access to fixed 22x cpu multiplier

    Quick Prime95 @22x134 Bclk with DDR3-1600/3200 DRAM/Uncore frequency set in bios for 6x DRAM memory multiplier.

    Will test more to see how far I can push cpu and Bclk with 22x multiplier

    Also flashed from intial 12/18 official bios to 12/31 beta bios for improved DDR3 memory compatibility as well as support for latest setFSB 2.1.88

    More 22x cpu multiplier results:
    • With 22x multiplier, seems max bclk in memtest is 208 bclk compared to 21x multiplier and 224 bclk
    • With 22x multiplier, max windows bootable is well below 200 bclk, I booted into windows at 190bclk and using new setFSB 2.1.88 bumped bclk to around 200-205 for max screenshot and validation. Compared to 21x multiplier and 220bclk bootable from bios into windows.

    @22x205 = 4515Mhz at 1.52v idle (vdimm = 1.875v bios)

    @22x200 = 4418Mhz at 1.52v idle (vdimm = 1.875v bios)

    Notes:
    • Seems as I disable the number of cpu cores from bios, in memtest86+ v2.11 clock for clock memory frequency bandwidth increases with the highest bandwidth with 1 single core enabled and 4 cores enabled having the lesser bandwidth numbers.
    • If this is true, then it could explain why I get a lower max bclk on 22x multiplier than with 21x as 22x uses a single core and thus higher bandwidth numbers may mean tighter internal memory latencies ? Tighter internal latencies for memory may mean same vdimm memory voltage used for memory clocks with 20-21x and lower multipliers with 4 cores enabled to get stable, might not be enough vdimm memory volts to handle the tighter latencies for single core at 22x multiplier ? I'll have to do more tests to confirm this.
