btw what ram are you using 1400 mhz DDR3 ?

limited to ddr2 on AMD 1,200mhz wouldn't not be hard to do with some low voltage sticks.

    I've got evo one's will do 1,100mhz @ 1.98 volts( 6-6-6-24-(31) ), on my phenom 9850. my sticks won't do 1,200mhz though

tight timings doesn't help K10 at all.
    look at the screenshot again
    RAM info is there

difference between DDR3 at those speeds and timings to DDR2 is maybe 5-6 seconds so that ppl dont start thinking its all ddr3 lol

i find the last part hard to believe

    Why discuss pi ?

what is soooo special about pi ? uhm uhm ?.

tight timings doesnt help eh, they help enough ;P.

lets do wprime instead, i pwn my friends Q6600 even at lower clock than Q6600, then you intel guys complain it isnt comparable (Core 2 guys)

    Well, it IS!.

Core 7 does good there too though, but anyways. Impressive 3dmark run at those speed and if the settings i posted @last page is applied i guess we can see something close to WR.

    3d Benchmarks:
    High HT LINK!.
High as possible cpu clock OFC, but balance between HT link and Cpu clock (coldbug issues here guys @ higher HT links)

Cpu benchmarks( Especially Single thread and alike(anything core 2 score good at)
Low HT link for non coldbug.
    Maximum clock.
    Tight timings for some.

3D benchmarks is the hard thing, and really, number crounching like superpi which is hilariously slow at calculating pi is worth nothing for me, i'd run it to compare vs same architecture/brand.

anyways current WR, well wouldnt say WR since PH2 is due to release :p but but, highest reported is : http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=474771 came in just recently

When AMD had 64-bit and Intel had only 32-bit, they tried to tell the world there was no need for 64-bit. Until they got 64-bit.
When AMD had IMC and Intel had FSB, they told the world "there is plenty of life left in the FSB" (actual quote, and yes, they had *math* to show it had more bandwidth). Until they got an IMC.
When AMD had dual core and Intel had single core, they told the world that consumers don't need multi core. Until they got dual core.
When intel was using MCM, they said it was a better solution than native dies. Until they got native dies. (To be fair, we knocked *unconnected* MCM, and still do, we never knocked MCM as a technology, so hold your flames.)

I've been doing computers and alike longer than you might expect, loved benching the good old Pentium 1-3 and then came tha Athlon t-bird times <3

I've sent a registration before, maybe cause i said my hobbies were: Hifi, overclocking, hardware, partying, cars that i didnt get accepted :p to have more interests than just computers.

Watch out on CES, amd is going to do Lhe have i heard, maybe 7 ghz ? o.0

Look like you missed out on the slot era and golden finger/pencil mod

Hmmmm I'm kinda neutral, but in the 939 days PI actually mattered to AMD users............What now cuz we cant do sub 14 secs its a junk bench? I know i'll be trying to put up some fast times with PI and amd. PI brings the true overclocker out of you with low level system tweaks and fine tuning voltages, yes you can actually shave time off with correctly set voltages, its that sensitive to performance........

High HT offers no benefit unless you bottleneck the entire platform..........this isn't socket 939 people.

i think whar makes pi so popular is the nature of how it runs..

watching the loops go by when on the limit of a WR or something is great.. you can see from the first loop if the run is faster than the last..

I don't have any problem with the bench in that regard.. I think if everyone can agree in peace that the 2 CPU's performance differs by such a huge margin that comparisons between them can't be made on it anymore, and the worth of each cpu shouldn't be judged on the times, then it's all good...

if Phenom 2 was say 10% slower than yorkfield @ it, it would still be a valid bench for comparisons, as that's not an unreasonable lead given ther raw single threaded crunching differences between the uArch's.

what you say is fair enough but i do have some reservations as well as this was not what a lot of AMD fans were like when Intel was house at it

superpi should not be pigeon holed

it is what it is....i dont think it should be ignored but at the same time one cant take ONLY superpi to make conclusions on how a particular platform perfoms

but intel was never house at it

the netburst arch performed as bad at superpi (clock/clock) vs A64 k8 as it did in any other app.. (i.e 45-50% slower clock/clock) , this ipc was reflected across most benchmarks out there, not just pi.. (with the exception of some encoding apps).. it's even reflected in the model numbering (i.e a 3400+ A64 would do pi around the same time as a 3.4Ghz netburst)

fastwrd to phenom, or better still phenom II vs Core 2 .. it's a good 35-40% behind clock/clock with a 4Mb conroe/kent, and closer to 50% behind 6M wolf/york.. which we all know is totally unrepresentative of the general performance across the board (single threaded)

Comparing Phenom II to other processors is hard.. We should remember, that the price of these will not be 1000-1200€. These are very powerfull cheap systems.. It's good for masses.
    this is the punchline bro

imo when it comes to amd. we cant expect the highest performance. we should take a look at the pricing and think about all those who will be able to get good performance for a lower price..

all benching programs have to be taken into context..
ie how the system was set up, timings etc etc

3dmark is always a good one to compare systems with
    but this is gold..
