Any news on if/when/what the next Logitech gaming mouse will be?
I recently got a Lachesis, and quite frankly, don't like it at all compared to my previous Logitech products. What I would really love to see is the MX Revolution with a wire

I need to order another one ASAP
I love my razor lachesis. You just got to get used to it's feel. What is it you don't like about it?

The thumb buttons don't click all that easily, I feel like they require such a significant press that I end up shifting the mouse slightly to the right just to click the dang button.
And the buttons on the right side of the mouse are practically worthless to press in, making this mouse really only a 7 button mouse, not 9.
And lastly, I find the software far lacking to Set Point. 2-3 second delay switching profiles seems silly to be bugged by, but it gets annoying. Also, only 5 application profiles? Seriously? Set point has no limit to the number of apps you can customize. And no default profile reserved for just being in Windows? Ughh, the software is just terrible.

amen to that.
imo though, logitech doesn't need a "next gaming mouse" as i wouldn't use a wired MX Revolution for gaming anyway. for gaming the MX518 is perfection. i've tried just about every other mouse there is and nothing ever came close (except the G5).
i haven't tried the steelseries yet though.
my hatred for razer products goes way beyond the lack of functionality and software.
i'll just pray the mx518 will always be available. (i have 3 unopened in my closet )

Honestly, right now I am torn between getting another* MX Revolution or try out the G9 mouse. Either way, I plan on selling this Lachesis and going back to Logitech.
Basically, the decision is between what I know and love in the MX and trying some of the new features in the G9.
The G9 has a wire, though I never really had an issue with the wireless 99% of the time.
The MX has two more buttons, for 11 instead of 9.
The G9 has higher DPI, but seriously, not sure if I care. That's what the sensitivity slider is for.
The G9 also has macros, something that could make up for having less buttons.
And I already know the MX is super comfortable for me, never held the G9 before.
*(My first one started to have an unresponsive right mouse button after two and a half years of use)

The MX Revolution mouse looks pretty comfortable. I use to be a logitech fan, till I used the Lachesis. Now I can't game without it Maybe give the MS Sidewinder a try.

Yeah me either. The on the fly switching is great. The side buttons on the right side can be programmed to anything. Even macro's. I'm not sure why you said they are useless. After i updated the firmware and drivers this Lachasis really took off. 4000 DPI FTW
The Lachasis is made for a larger hand tho.

what did you use for gaming prior to the lachesis?
the mx518/G5/MX Revolution all feel they were made for my hand and i have pretty small hands. the G9 felt smaller and more like i had to place my fingers in the right positions. where the 518 my hand just rests on top and everything is in the right place.
do you prefer higher or lower dpi? i use a pretty low dpi and set ingame responsiveness pretty low, but out of game i use a pretty high dpi. i only use 2 profiles.
i know in my experience with the lachesis; i couldn't reach the buttons on the right with my ring finger, and they were almost impossible to push with my pinky, the buttons felt like i spilled soda/pop all over it. they have this cheap clicking feel and sounds like it's broken. it just has the most awkward shape i find it hard to believe anyone could be comfortable using it.

I used the MX Revolution exclusively for two and a half years. As for DPI, I really never even change it. With the Lachesis, I have those buttons reprogrammed to something much more useful than DPI swapping.
jasonelmore, as far as those right side buttons, at least for me, they require sooooo much effort to actually press them, The left hand thumb buttons are pretty stiff and not that user friendly, so the right hand side has that plus the awkward placement going against them. I know the mouse is ambidextrous, but those right side buttons can't simply be pressed on the fly. I practically have to hold the mouse still to get a click off on them.

i would definitely suggest the mx518 over the G9. unless you're dead set on using laser. i've never used a steelseries, but most people that have used them swear by them.

The MX518 looks like the G5 I use at the office, except it has that extra thumb button.
Personally, I liked my MX Revolution much, much more than the G5. More buttons, better feel for me, and that awesome scroll wheel that I love.
But it is beginning to sound like no one knows of anything on the Logitech horizon.
Which is weird, they haven't had a new mouse since the G9, which I believe was over 18 months ago.

Logitech really hasn't came out with anything new here recently geared towards the enthusiast market. A lot of people who don't like the Lachesis like the DeathAddar. It's similar to the Lachesis but a bit smaller. The G9 is a nice mouse, why are you looking for a change? Maybe 2009 will be a good year for mice ha ha.
Like the above poster said, Microsoft has a new sidewinder mouse that doesn't look half bad. OCZ has recently released there own brand of mice also.

struggling market i'd say is holding back new releases. while logitech is still the leader for peripherals their operating margins have dropped significantly. it would probably be safe to say we won't see anything new from logitech in the next 6 months (now that i said that they'll release one tomorrow). and i doubt we'll ever see a design like the MX Revolution in a wired version since they probably would have released it by now if it were going to happen. to my knowledge there is only one wired mouse with the hyperscroll wheel and it's pretty crappy the rx1500

the mx518 and g5 are almost identical grips/shapes and the g5 has 2 side buttons not its just missing one infront of the scroll wheel and u can set any button to a macro
and i just got a g5 as a gift (i wanted a 518 but no ware local had it) and its got much better tracking than the original g5 had and it dosnt seam to have negative acceleration problems

yea i saw that in a press release but i find game pads as useful as a usb powered pencils. the $8 logitech keyboards are the best gaming keyboards i've used, everything from the height and angle of each key to the softness and responsiveness are just perfect imo.
the only thing worth mentioning in the G13 articles/press releases is the fact that there is no mention of any new mice in the near future.
