Isopropyl alcohol is a good choice. Acetone is another option, but must be very carefully, it eats some plastic materials.

Personally I use Industrial Acetone, just make sure you buy the stuff pure from hardware stores rather than that nail polisher with additives from places like regular retail stores.
Oh and wear gloves, long term exposure to this stuff isn't good for you in the first place.

Personally I haven't experienced with plastic being eaten away by acetone, I use it on everything that involves computers except cleaning cases for good reason.

Grain alcohol (Everclear) works great if you have an old bottle around.

Always I use from Alcohol-100% but its not great and after use I had to brush the IHS/Heatsink again also one time I used from Girl's Acetone but after clean up, IHS/Heatsink got much of scent!

Well I use a tissue to wipe the bulk away, then I get a cotton bud and dip in the the liquid hand soap, then just rub it over the over the CPU and most of the thermalpaste sticks to the cotton bud. Then to finish I get a tissue and wipe it again and rest comes off easy.

I wouldn't think you'd want to use anything that has citrus in it for metals.

On HS and WB that im changing the TIM out I use a plastic bag and rub the remaining paste into any pores with my finger then wipe clean with a dry paper towel.
On the CPU I just use Iso alco

This is basically the two step process that Arctic Cleaner consists of.

+1 especially if your subzero and freeze the TIM in place.

I agree it smells about the same, do you have anything that we could consider factual to back up this claim?

arcticlean is the best i ever used and worth every single penny. i reviewed it back in 2005: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...ver/ArctiClean

i still have some left in those bottles, even though i use it in every single vga card review i do to clean up the gpu core

buy it, if you are not satisfied with it i'll give you the money back (no i am not affiliated with arctic silver in any way)

The AC two-part system works well enough. The tim remover is a solvent, nothing more. It loosens the tim to help remove it. The purifier is equivalent to 95% pure isopropyl alcohol. The two small vials cost a lot less than a quart/pint of alcohol and another quart of solvent. The two vials will last you for (guessing) at least 50 apps. As opposed to a lifetime supply of the generic.

For application, don't use a cotton tissue or swab. They leave particles. You want a lint-free cloth/towel. (Can you spell coffee filter?) GL
