    VMOD R9800 Pro on A64

I've been thinking of vmodding my Sapphire Raddy 9800 Pro but before I do I'd like to know what I can expect to gain in 3Dmark2001 if I do this. I know a guy who did the vddr and vgpu mods and he beats me by only 100 points.

Also, if I do the vddr and vgpu mods I'd like to be able to remove the mods easily if I need to. I saw a guy using 3 pin fan headers and just slipping the pots in the headers. Is this a good idea?

Thanks a lot ahead of time for your help.

That's what I used is fan header plugs and just plug the pots into it. Works great. I don't know about your friend, but you can expect much more than 100 points increase but cooling comes into it as the core and mem will run much hotter at higher volts and must have adequite cooling. goodluck

    Thanks for the reply.

I've got very good aircooling. What do you think the max voltage is that I should use with air and how much do you think I would gain in 3DMarks?

I really can't give you a good anwser as I have never done a mod and used air with it. I would however keep very close watch on the core temps, placing a probe on the backside of the card. It can and will get to over 60c very quickly and that's way too hot for me. I really don't know what the upper limits are for the core temp, but thats pretty hot. When I first got the new card, (old one r.i.p.) I did put it in stock and ran a little 01, and temps went to 50c and this is with no volt mods. goodluck

Depends what you consider good air cooling. My 9700 will take ~1.95v with a dynatron heatsink (http://www.jaguarfx.net/radeon) and my temps never go above ~45 degrees which is awesome. Can clock the core up to 476 now . Not too shabby for ambient air cooling. Haven't done the vddr mod yet.

I don't know but I think your stock heatsink was almost as good as the Dynatron. I'm using a massive Zalman, and I can bench at 495 core and 393 mem without vmods. The Zalman does have a 120mm Vantec Stealth blowing right on top of it.

Paddy007UK modded his Raddy 9800 and I know he has the same Zalman that I have. Right now he has the #1 100% aircooled rig on the 2k1 ORB. He's #30 something with a 100% aircooled rig. I want to try and beat him but without a vmod I don't think I have a chance.

Also, I think he vmodded his Gigabyte K8N Pro, because he couldn't bench any higher than 2250 (225x10) and now all of the sudden he can bench at 2360 (236x10). WTF???

I know he recently traded in his Twinmos for some Mushkin PC3500 Black Level II. Do you think that is the reason? I think he might have gotten some better CPU cooling too, but he isn't saying.

Anyway, thanks for your help. Got any links to pictures showing the easiest way to do those main 2 vmods on a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro?

hehe, Storm , I think with the vmod you'll beat me easy because my 9800Pro sucks

BTW THIS is the highest aircooled rig now so.....

    **AIR** -=|=-01 - 31,322-=|=-03 - 14,076-=|=-05 - 6,708-=|=-

BS!!! Do you really think 25K is possible on 100% air? 520 core on an aircooled Raddy? That is a load of crap and I'm not buying it. He is just a couple of points below Jason's Prommied CPU and Swiftied Raddy. I don't know why he would say he's on air when he's not, but I think he's full of crap. His Raddy and VMEM is probably on water at least. Do you believe him? I don't.

So did you get my e-mail?

    I replied to your mail

BTW that score is legit, Hoschi is a well respected bencher

have you ever seen that mans mobo's after he's done/? like KAMU the guy that did 9.1k they know exac;ty what "everything" does to make it work

BTW LOOK AT CHRIS aka THE FORCE!!

2400mhz 1:1 "stoc air cooling" and 550/410 on the vc... so why do oyu thin 520 core on "good" air cooling makes that score fake???

I think someone is alittle jeloius, lol
I never said the score was fake. I just find it hard to believe that he's 100 % air. If what you say is true (and I have no reason to believe it is not) that's amazing!

As far as i know, his VGpu is modded to 1,8V and it is cooled by an Alpha PAL6035.

Yes that Alpha PAL6035 is great! It makes a hell of a noise, but it compares to any good watercooling system... I must get me one of those

And 2360 on air on A64 is a good but not extravagant oc

That score is insane on air though. He must have done some nasty vmodding. 25K on 100% air is sick!

    Good for him though!
