Virus Removal & Recovery Console Guide

    Ok People.

Ive been trying to help out a lot of my friends with troubleshooting their partitions their viruses and trojans and their what nots. Here below is a simple guide to sort these issues out..

    Software You'll Need:

    Hijack This: Download Here

    Combo Fix: Download Here

    Windows Recovery Console: Download Here
Note: you'll have to scroll down in the above link and choose your OS depending on XP/ XP /wsp1 XP/wsp2 etc.

Once You've downloaded the above software, open up the location where you've downloaded the stuff. Now drag the windows recovery console executable onto combofix.exe. It should give you a confirmation dialog, click ok and it will automatically install the recovery console into your bootup. What this does is gives you the option of choosing, during bootup time, whether you want to boot xp or get into recovery console and carry out recovery tasks. Usually you would do this by popping in your windows xp cd and booting from that and its a long process. I know you guys will love this simple trick.

once done the program automatically starts ComboFix. Continue to scan your disks and make sure that you dont use the computer during this period and make sure you definitely dont click anywhere inside the command line box that runs combofix. it will usually change your date so dont worry about that. Once this is done it most probably will restart your computer and give you a log of whatever actions its taken. it will tell you if any infected files were found and what registry entries seem weird, etc.

Now, you gotta install hijackthis and run a log which will give you the option of saving it as a text file. You take that text file and post it in any tech troubleshooting forum or even here and we will help you out on whether your system is finally clean or if you need to carry out more changes.

    Hope this helps.
