    Thermalright AXP-140 Heatsink Pictured

    Thermalright AXP-140 Heatsink Pictured

Thermalright, best known for its aluminum fin heatsinks devised the AXP-140 CPU heatsink for HTPCs, that is low-profile friendly with a height of 7 cm. VR-Zone unboxed the heatsink to take a few pictures.

The AXP-140 supports Intel processors on the LGA-775 socket. It consists of a thick nickel-plated copper CPU contact block from which six aluminum heatpipes convey heat to an aluminum fin array. Unlike conventional heatsinks from Thermalright, the array propagates horizontally along the plane of the motherboard. The dimensions of this heatsink are 145 x 147 x 70.2 mm (L x W x H). It weighs 900 g (1.98 lbs). Although this heatsink could cool some processors with low TDP passively for a silent operation, a 120mm fan can be attached to it for active air-cooling. The AXP-140 is expected to be priced at US $59 when it hits the stores.

So can you attach a 140mm fan?

With radiators going 140mm (HWlabs), its just a matter of time. Imagine a TRUE that'll require a 140mm fan.

Now lets just get a pic on a motherboard. I bet you won't half the board.

So it seriously doesn't come with a retention bracket of some sort for a 140mm fan, like one would assume from the product name?

    Edit: I'm slooooooow.

I don't see the point of making a HSF that size if you can't mount a 140mm fan on it.

Thermalright, their products always look polished to the finest detail. Their only downside is price.
Smack a Noiseblocker or Scythe fan on it and you have a winner

    EDIT:
It looks like there are two levels if you look closely on second picture. Not sure what kind of dimensions though...

While tehre prices are typically high, you know your getting a good product. Had Thermalright products for years, and plan on continuing too, even if the price is high, it is 98% of the time the best cooler to buy for the performance of it.

I like it. If I build a new ATX system, will consider this so I don't have tro replace stock N/B cooler. BTW Yate-Loon makes a nice a 140mm fan thats cheap.

Look up XP90 and XP120, these came out before the HR-03 heatsinks.

Anyway, was worried that I saw push pins in the thumbnails, but looks like it bolts down with a mini-spanner like the Ultima90, although I must say it looks a bit fiddly to do with the lack of room.

Where have you seen the IFX14 beat out the TRUE? From what i remember they perform very close to the same(not even talking about the copper TRUE).

i didnt say it beats out the true120 copper..

    i got both

ifx14 vs true120 copper only looses @ weight but not @ cooling

true120 copper not worth its weight thanks to its design

    ifx14 = true120 copper @ cooling

    ifx14 design = superior

How in God's name are you supposed to tighten the screws down?
If they send one of those 2 cent wrenches like they do with the HR-01X for the dual xeons you people will scream until your hoarse..

well it looks like you need to remove the mobo to fit this thing, I guess it shouldn't be that hard to fit then.

Jesus TR, just rip off coolermaster's method, so we don't have to fish around under the sink to tie down stupid little bolts.
