building new system-need Recomendations

hey everybody, I'll be pretty much building a new system within the next two weeks and need some help choosing a motherboard. my current system:
EVGA 680i A1
E6850
4 gigs of OCZ PC8500 DDR2
EVGA 9800 gtx
Coolermaster HAF 932
I just got the HAF mainly for watercooling this new setup so far I'm thinking of this:
ASUS Striker II Nse 790i or Foxconn Blackops X48
E8400 EO stepping or E8500
2 gigs of G skill 1333mhz DDR3 for now ill get another 2 later
ill be keeping the 9800 gtx for the first month or so but ill be getting a 4870x2 or gtx 280 depending on what board i get. what do you guys think so far

Im not very certian it will give you much of a gain mate.
Right. Are you totally sure you need the old old striker ??
I dare say keep the old system dump a quad in it and get another 9800.


Failin that get an i7 and a X58. use same video card. get ~6GB ram and be happy

Going from what you have to what you want will give you almost no performance boost. Save your money until low-voltage DDR3 and Nehalem parts come down in price, then move to the new platform. Or alternatively, AMD's Phenom II should be out by then, so that might also be a viable option.

I was originally going to keep that board but then I started getting codes C1 and D1. I had the E6850 for about a year and a half and the last couple months its been really unstable not even overclocked.

I agree buying those new parts will not give you any performance boost just save yor money for a good i7 build

Before you buy new hardware to solve instability issues (by which I presume you mean crashing/slow/poor performance), I'd try a reinstall.

Clean your system as well, there is probably dust in the fans/heatsinks.
I also agree with the others, waiting and saving up is a good idea.

I've called evga and they said the memory controller went bad. i've tried a couple different types of memory in it and same problem. i can only get it to boot up with 1 gig of pc6400 memory at 2.3v any less it wont post. also in the bios everything is locked, i can't adjust anything its all grayed out(fsb, multiplier,memory,ext...). i have tried flashing the bios several times with the p32 and p33 bios and that does not fix the problem. so i should fork out the extra couple hundred and get the i7? Im looking at the asus p6t and the i7 920.

His machine wouldnt even post for like an hour the OS is not the issue here its 100% hardware and that board is POS in my opinion Had it sold it and counted my blessings

I would. Its a very nice chip. Only trouble is that the mobo's are VERY expensive for some reason. The chips aren't bad at sub-$300 (the 920 is where its at), but the good mobo's will cost you another $275+.

Agreed, good recommendation, although I wouldn't have said Mushkin in particular, there are many good kits available.

He lives downstairs from me so I was helping him get it to work and yeah he could go many other brands but mushkin might be Micron was as G skill is now samsung as well as many others.

so I finally caved I got an EVGA X58, i7 920, and a triple channel kit of 1600mhz patriot extreme viper memory on it's way!
