Why in the world would you put WD-40 on a true?

Try soaking it overnight in vinegar.

dude if nothing takes it off use a permanent black marker and colour it yes it will look a tad off from close up but anything over a foot away it will look like new ive done this many times when scratching the interior of a black case the little aluminum showing would drive me nuts I also use this method on black rads for watercooling around the screw area gets nicked up a bit

    What electrons? Its a heatsink.

I'd spray it down with brake cleaner or electronics cleaner. You will lose the finish (which is screwed up already) but it will be nice and shiny again. You could always get it powder coated or electroplated.

Oh, dont powder coat/electroplate the bottom though unless you plan to lap it.. and dont dip/spray/clean the bottom either with brake cleaner or electronics cleaner unless you plan to lap as well.

brake cleaner wont harm the solder, it will evaporate long before that happens.

As to spraying the heatsink while it is in the PC.. we're not 8 years old here.

Try acetone, or some hexane solvents.

Or try something strongly acidic or basic. It looks bad already, what more is there to lose.

    Flitz.

If you can find it, it will solve your heatsink problems. It requires a moderate amount of common sense if used in conjunction with sharp edges and stiff drinks, but it can turn a dead possum into a diamond ring, for reals.

WD-40 the rest so it looks the same.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.
