4850 Crossfire help

I currently own a VisionTek HD4850 512MB card. I'm having a hard time finding that card for less than 199 anymore (i piad 159 for it a few months ago). I currently ran across a Saphhire HD4850 1GB card for 169.

My wonder is, with these running in crossfire, will it only read 512mb on the 1gb to match the 512mb card (like how it down steps the fast card to match the slower cards clock/mem clock speeds)? Or will it read the full 1gb giving me 1.5gb total of vid mem?

sweet. BUT what if i want to spend the extra $10 which would put me at the same cost as that card since the shipping is almost $8 and the 4850 1gb is free shipping (thus same price, but more vid ram)... then i go back to my orig question, would the full 1gb be readsince the other card only has 512mb?

IIRC, it'll ignore the other 512mb of the memory.
