Mugen2 has the worst mounting system I've ever used....

It's more than okay for someone who will install it and forget it....but for me, who is constantly swapping HSFs, it's beyond horrible. Especially since I have temp probes placed onto my board that I'd really rather not have move at all (since I use them for temp logging for HSF comparisons).

I understand why it was done--there's no way to set it down and be able to screw it down because of its size. Doesn't make it any less painful though

I'm definitely buying the Baram when it comes out, looks like a fun heatsink

I'm actually a huge fan of pushpins

So easy to get it on and off in seconds and it has uniform pressure

Though the pushpins that came with my Xigmateks were crappy quality and broke pretty quickly. My Infinity that I bought before it came out (I asked a few retailers when they were getting it and one offered to have one dropped shipped to me before launch ) still has its pushpins in fine condition (I think at least--it's at a friend's place right now).

I'm actually working on a push-pin mounting system for my TRUECu....not for a vertical system, just for the horizontal bench

Vapor, you're lucky with that pushpins. Mine were not good for installation. I even couldn't lock the last pushpin. I changed them for the screws. It's also was some difficult to install Infinity on the motherboard with them, but it has much more pressure.

Two identical heatsinks may NOT perform the same way.

Besides the mounting issues with some TRUE's or lapping, etc, I had two XP-90's years ago, and the second XP-90 had 5C *lower* temps than the first one. And it had nothing to do with mounting (i probably remounted those things over 10 times), although I think I used AS2 and later 3 as AS5 wasn't out yet.
Explanation from someone (here or ocforums) said it was probably a faulty heatpipe. If that's the case, than it's easily possible that this can happen with TRUEs and other heatsinks as well.

I had come from a SLK-947U (i forgot..was this copper?) and I remember the "bad" XP90 giving lower temps (5c?) over that...

    Thank you for review PcCI2iminal

i like the back-plate design from scythe it looking to strong but few don't like for holding heatsink with bolt from back-plate because it'll little difficult on one guy installing

Best way is placing cooler on desk and placing MB onto it.

Yeah, lap that TRUE and I bet you'll get some VERY different results. I would speculate a difference close to 3-5C at load, if not more. A well-lapped TRUE is still untouchable.

    Go Thermalright!

I'm getting my mugen 2 tmr, will post my thoughts once i'm done, my question is, it seems the mugen 2 requires u to take off the original backplate of the 1366 socket, will this void my motherboard warranty? if so it sounds like a terrible design.....

So i installed my mugen 2, i'm running at 20x165 at 1.168vcore (set at 1.2 in bios, in windows reads 1.168) anyways on prime my temps go up to 57 C on my highest core in real temp, is that too high? I don't know if i tightened it enough, I basically tightened as hard as possible with one hand, don't wanna risk warping/breaking my mobo, what do u guys think?

I'm using a HAF932, my ambient's kinda low tho, I'm in LA so I'm guessing my ambient's in the low 20s high 10s, also is there risk of warping if i overtighten my hsf? I tightened it quite a bit more because my temps were in 60s and now its in 50s but I'm kinda paranoid, i'm using the dfi te3h8

I may have missed something but if the Mugen 2 and the Thermalright eXtreme were compared with their stock fans then the comparison was between apples and oranges because the fan that comes with the Mugen 2 runs at a lower speed. It's not a huge difference but it's enough to account for a degree or two.

I apologize if I'm reading impaired, but the only way to test two heatsinks head to head is with the same fans, otherwise you are testing more than one variable.

I have both heatsinks but have not tried the Thermalright yet. I'm happy with the Mugen 2. My sole complaint is the mounting system, which seems to have been designed by an engineer with 3 hands.

Perhaps this is the wrong thread to discuss this, but I just purchased the Scythe Mugen 2 last night along with my i7 rig, and I can't seem to find a way to install this Heatsink onto my EVGA X58 3x-SLI Motherboard. Every way you turn the heatsink, there's another object in the way (I.E. First Ram slot, or the 2 heatsinks that sit near the CPU socket). Anyone had success installing this heatsink on this board? Or am I SOL? If I'm SOL, anyone have any suggestions for a heatsink that will have the clearance on this motherboard?

Planning on having this kind of airflow setup for my new build in the coming weeks

the case is an antec 900, cpu is going to be a 720 be, I m liking this heatsink as it seems you can use 8gb of ram (mushkin redlines in my case) without clearance issues.
Anyways given the airflow setup, I m thinking of putting 2 fans on this cooler, scythe ultra kaze 120mm's, 133 cfm, high static pressures.. at right angles, so one fan blowing horizontally, towards the back exhaust, and one fan on the bottom blowing up towards the top exhaust fan.
Would this be the maximally efficient airflow config for cooling the cpu, by my logic (lol / disclaimer) it would seem to pull the most air through the fins, a cube of cooling if you will? The alternative is a standard push pull configuration either vertically or horizontally, but with the exhaust fans so close, i was thinking the conventional way may be redundant?

Thoughts? Seems like an awesome performing cooler, with the right space saving features i need for ram, was going to go with the Sunbeam CCF4 until i saw this badboy

Nobody tested this Mugen 2 with 2 fans in, 2 fans out (4 fans total)??????

Come on, I just came across this thread, and would love to see how a Mugen on Steroids would perform!
