Palit Releases Custom GeForce GTX285 Cards With 1 GB and 2 GB Memory

Palit Microsystems, leading graphics card manufacturer, announces the first own design GeForce GTX285 1 GB and 2 GB. Armed with NVIDIA PhysX and NVIDIA CUDA technology, the GeForce GTX 285 series are ready to enable a total new class of physical gaming interaction.
Palit GTX285 2 GB is the first and the only one graphics card available in the market. The Palit GeForce GTX 285 1 GB and 2 GB feature a core speed of 648 MHz and 2.5 GHz on its GDDR3 memory with a 512bit interface. It supports the latest NVIDIA PhysX technology providing real-time physics simulations in leading edge PC and console games. With up to 50% more performance than prior generation GPUs, GeForce GTX 285’s GPUs tear through complex DirectX 10 environments and cinematic effects at blazing frame rates in extreme HD resolution.

The nvidia card that could really do with a 2x boost to memory size is the 295, the 285 less so.

With 2GB and a little overclocking Palit's new GTX285 could be almost like 4870x2 on performance. Note that Evga SSC GTX285 it is very close to 4870x2. And a good thing is that Palit make also a custom cooler which might help very much the overclocking.
And the price may be could be just a 30$ moore.

I'm never touching multi-GPU again. Single fastest GPU for me thankyouverymuch. Former 2x 4870X2 owner here.

And I'd dig 2gb of memory, it was bound to happen sooner or later, and at least it isn't on the 8400GS or something like that

Maybe this will allow us to turn up the draw distance in GTA IV from 20% to 25%

Dont know what your 4870X2 issues were (drivers?), but I always was pretty much anti-MGPU, now Im quite happy (depsite drivers).

Anyway, Palit/Gainward make some nice sick cards, next card will be from them for sure. Those reference models are... yeah, slightly boring

For a long time that's what I told myself too. The longer you wait, the less they will sell for.

R700 Deluxe it's trislot this is dual from the picture.
And the fans are 4pin PVM like the GTX 260 Sonic, so you can control the turation. The fact is that those custom cooler don't let the temperature to raise above 70 C.

Can the GT2xx series even utilize that much memory?

Doubt the full amount unless you have 3-4 Gpus SLI'ed and run at some insane res with the biggest texture pack out there.

Oh and did I mention AA, lots of AA.

What do you think would be better for 2560x1600 -- 2 of these or 2 GTX 295s?

    Or maybe 3 of these?

Why have 4 GPUs when you can fit 8? What kind of PPD would a rig like that get.

But you'd have to pump so much texture data / AA to actually use up that memory.
