    Exclamation Seasonic 750w Explodes

I just had a SeaSonic M12D SS-750 750W PSU blow up not more than two feet from my head Big explosion and some fireworks. Scared the hell outta me. I'd never had a PSU cap blow on me and I musta jumped a foot straight up It lived for about 15 secs.
Needless to say I'll not be ordering another SeaSonic
I'd done some research and the PSU was getting some good reviews; maybe I just got a bad one. Regardless, I ordered an Antec Signature 850W to replace it.
Anyway, newegg was very good about it; they are going to refund shipping costs here and back and no restocking fee! Gotta luv that newegg customer service.

I've owned a seasonic 650watt psu for years. It's awesome.

Get a new one. I doubt it would happen again.

You're lucky, sorry to hear about that. How's your hearing?

I've experienced something similar with another brand of psu and the culprit was a spider that managed to crawl inside and electrocuted itself (and took the psu and mobo with it in the process).

Sounds like a dud. Every company has a dud. I wouldn't write them off over one dud.

I say just RMA it for the same model. Like Sparky said, there are always duds. Seasonic makes solid PSU's.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

Truth be told, I've never heard a bad thing about Seasonic. There are always duds, so give them a chance. Anyways--I'd say RMA and explain the failure. Oh, and can we get pictures of the destruction?

every once in a while you will hear about this. including the pc power and cooling 750w silencer which is a seasonic build (almost bought this). ended up going with a corsair 750tx since they were nearly identical to the PCP&C, far quieter and came out to 70 bucks after rebate. so far, this thing kicks my GXS700's ass in all departments

BTW: how do you like the 850? jonnyguru gave it a 10 in performance, which is something you dont see every day

Already packed up and ready to go back to newegg. No visible signs of damage to its casing and didn't want to mess around opening it up.

Hasn't gotten here yet, Monday or Tuesday probably. jonnyguru's praise was main reason for getting it

Antecs are built by seasonic also aren't they? I had a 500w Atec blow up about 2 years ago...

The Signature 850 is Delta-built. Anyways--3rd of 3 to have a problem or just 3rd period? Could be a bad lot.

Don't buy any Corsair HX units. Seasonic makes good stuff. Just RMA it and be done. Things happen.

Why shouldn't we by any HX units which are said/rated as some of the best modular PSUs on the market? Not to mention made by Seasonic (I think the HX1000 is CWT though, but also amazing).

    I was wondering this myself.

The HX520 I put in my brother's system seemed like a very nice supply.

What causes a power supply to blow? A short by a spider ( I thought that would just cause a little fizzt unless it was a tarantula lol) More likely to be bad caps, metal shard or screw in the psu or badly soldered wire coming loose? The most common one in the UK is accidentallly switching PSU to 110V supply

In an astonishing coincidence, that seems to be an SG-850 in my sig powering my main rig. I wonder how that could have happened
