Phase Chage Cooling a Video Card

    Hey Guys,

I need a little assistance here. I want to modify my phase change to mount to my GPU. Right now.. for gpu cooling, I go from Air to Water to LN2. I want a mid point between water and LN2. I figure if I can mount my phase change, it will give me added time to tweak the card under subzero condition, versus wasiting LN2 on it.

For those that have done it before.. how effective will Phase change be to cool a video card? To make things easy.. lets say I have a standard Vapochill with no modification, tweaks, or tuning done to it.

Will it be able to keep like a GTX280 or 4870 at SubZero temps during benches?

An HD4870, definitely. A GTX280.. maybe depending on the voltage. To be honest though it's easier just to use an LN2 pot with dry ice pellets or even ice cubes(my favorite, "free" from the freezer)

    Hey Gomeler,

Thanks for the quick reply buddy. Idealy I would like to put "Mild" voltages on it. just to get an idea how the card will perform. I hate buying dice and finding out the card sucks.

But overall.. that is some good news to hear

Gom the thing about using normal ICE is it melts and before your even half done benching you would need to empty the water out of the pot DICE is more convenient and still extremely cheap

It's called a turkey baster, they are great for sucking out liquids from turkey pans and tubes I'm currently using ice with my F1EE while testing my Core i7, it's better than the box cooler Intel shipped.

    ice cubes + water = 32F

ice cubes + salt + water =~22F or lower

    The Laws of Thermodynamics say:

Zeroth Law: "You must play the game."
    First Law: "You can't win."
Second Law: "You can't break even."
Third Law: "You can't quit the game."

Do you wanna Play Thermodynamics ???????? I forgot "you must"

I didn't want to risk corroding my F1EE anymore than it already is

I use ice cubes for hours. I use ice so often I've considered having a mold made of the internals of the F1EE so I can make a huge ice cube that I can just slide into it.

but then you realized how much it would cost for a mold and would be cheaper and less of a headache to just buy ln2?

Nope, it's easier for me to just dump regular ice cubes into the pot

Add some quartered limes, brown sugar and cachaca -> et voila: caipirinha.

    /ontopic:

I had a vapochill (1st one) some time ago and tried to mount it on my 9800 these days. Did not work well as I cracked the core a bit. So be careful and try to make a nice mount for it.
