    Core i7 with 12GB Questions/Problems/Solutions Thread

Ok since i have noticed that there a several uses with 12GB of Ram that experience some problems with Ci7, it was my idea to make a thread that concerns this issues.

I want that thread to be a collection of problems and possible solutions for whoever has problems with 12GB.

    First my
    Hardware:
    Ci7 920 Batch 3837#A587
    GA-EX58-Extreme Rev 1.0
    12GB OCZ Gold DDR3-1600 CL8 LV 1.65V (Two kits)
    Powercolor PCS+ HD4870 1GB

    Problem:
Board cant cold boot (after the power was off) with more then 150Mhz Bclck. On the otherhand a warm boot (just a rest after altering the bios) is no problem, even with 200mhz bclck.
Memtest+ 2.10 runs without a problem on the 12GB for several hours.
When only 6GB are in the board the system can coldboot without a problem, even with 180mhz blck or more.

A good thing is that the Extreme has post code leds so i know that the board stops booting at 6Bh (Programm chipset registers according to items described in the Setup & Auto-configuration table). Thats why i susbect its a Bios problem, but i could be totally wrong about that.

    Solution:
None so far, i have contaced the gigabyte support, maybe it is a bios problem. If on the other hand it is a IMC problem i am screwed and i have to return one kit.

I'm running 189 bclk and my system is posting fine. I just have a problem with my evga board cutting the power on reboot everytime I reboot, but it does that at stock though.

Update... ookkkkayyyy, this board/cpu really behaves weird with 12Gb, i have a huge cold boot "hole".

Everything above 150mhz qpi is not cold boot stable, but at 200mhz qpi it boots as if nothing has happend....

Im now at 200x18 with 1.2V vcore and everything is fine....

While I was testing 12gb with the GB X58-UD5 with Bios F4L, I got a bios checksum error and the mobo reverted back to F3 bios.

you should post a bios template and discuss how you are tweaking this RAM

also make sure you manually loosen some timings like TRFC

watch your uncore voltage as it affects clocks and stability with a lot of RAM installed as well

Are you trying to run your 12 gigs @ 1600 Hornet?

Good idea gona, post that tomorrow. But the problem is, even when i input the timings that work with e.g. 180Mhz blck manually, the board cant cold boot. Stability of the ram shouldn't be a problem, since i only run the 6x multi.

Duno i dont need all that bandwidth for 24/7. Right now im 1200 @ CL7 maybe gona try CL6, but DDR3-1200 CL7 already gives me 15.3K read
    and 14k write.

For benching on the other hand i would for sure to get more, but for that i think i will pull our 3 modules and bench with 6gb.

    I'm running 12 GC OCZ gold 8-8-8-24 1.65V RAM

    920 @ 4.2 GHz (200 x 21) @ 1.408V
    Memory running at 1200 MHz

Those who are having issues please post the following information.

    Bclk
    CPU Multi
    QPi Multi
    Uncore Mult
    Memory Mult

I think where you are seeing the instability is with the QPI/Uncore ratio.

    Here is my info.

for me to run @1600 Mhz, it would require me to lower BCLK to 181 which I'm not too keen on doing atm.

Can you run cmd sfc /scannow and check to see if there is any corruption of your system files?

Is anybody getting 4.0Ghz on an Evga X58 with 12GB? I'm thinking of getting a gigabyte board to do 4.0Ghz.

I'm going to repost the same pic from the OC thread of 20x180... I got 20x189 stable at the same volts but it fails at 19x190 even if I put 1.4volts on the chip. also I'm having a problem with the cpu-z and everest showing 1 less mhz on the bclk than what I set in the bios.

    My core i7 920 is at 4ghz 200x20 1.25V

    RAM at 1200MHz 7-7-7-20-2T is stable QPi/VTT 1.3V, DRAM 1.64V
RAM at 1600MHz 9-9-9-24-2T is very hard for me to get stable, even with DRAM at 1.7V and QPI/VTT at 1.45V to 1.6V. I've tried many combinations of voltages in between... I cannot get it linx stable. I've loosened the RAM timings also... What I've found is that 12GB needs more vcore...

I guess my Core i7 920's IMC is not so good
