so for the pelt did u plate a double copper plate one on the mobo heatsink and another on the waterblock or just one one the mobo heatsink

cause previous experience with pelt it will melt a bit and get kindda sticky,
First time using a pelter and I just put it right on the mobo heatsink and the other side is the waterblock.

Guess I will need to scrape it off if I ever replace or change it.

Keeps the temps in the 30's at idle and low 40's at extreme loads.

I am using Crucial RAM with a OCZ ram cooler, also works very well.
Was thinking of liquid cooling the RAM, but I have not had good experiences with this in the past.

@scaramonga - It looks like you've hit 4.0 with turbo and HT turned on? That's great!

I just flashed to the newest bios and I'm ready to OC with the following common hardware -

Core i7 920 (currently at stock) Cooled with TRUE Black
    Rampage II Extreme BIOS 1104
    Corsair Dominator 3x2gb kit 1600

    Current temps are

CPU - Reported by Everest Cores = 37-40c
    NB/SB - 51-52c

I'm a little nervous about how hot the NB and SB are reporting. Should this be cause for concern?

That said, would anyone be kind enough to provide a template for me to work from, for 4.0 w/HT (that can be adapted to 3.6 if need be.) on the 1104 BIOS? I was reading there may be some changes in what should be enabled/disabled CPU option wise, on this new BIOS.

    Thanks for your time!

The 1104 BIOS is making my system unstable and can not overclock as high as with 1001. So I've flashed back to 1001.

Your OK buddy The NB/SB are well known to get hot on this board, and mine sit 50-59 usually, no need for concern, its perfectly normal

I don't know about perfectly normal, obviously the cooler the better in terms of overclocking potential, they will get hot if for example your running sli or tri sli, but if your running just one card I dont think they should get that hot.

They can take a fair bit of heat but not good over long periods imo.

Oh....and yes, the cooler the better, but everyone seems to be around the same?

I run 3.8Ghz and my Northbridge is 46C with Southbridge being 44C. These and the GPU at 44C are the highest temps in my system.

If you are not overclocked and your DRAM is running at 1600Mhz, then it's a bit high for such settings, but not at all in a dangerous altitude.

Unless someone is running with a pair of 295's, I can't see why anyone would upgrade to BIOS 1104, especially if the OC's are good with any previous bios.

Yeah exactly, 1104 is probably the most important bios so far.

Hi can anyone compile a list of the current known issues with the 1004 bios?

My comp seems to restart suddenly and randomly without any warning. I have tired everything from contacting Asus to installing latest drivers to troubleshooting each of my hardware parts. Can anyone assist me please?

Rebooting is mostly a voltage issue, try to raise vcore, vdimm (to 1.65) and vpqi to 1.35.

should do the block is on the underside of the card [opposite side to sound card slot] and the barbs will be no where near it.

If the ram plates on the card cause an issue use the second blue pcie slot, you wont have a problem there.

I have two 4870x2's with water blocks and have no problem with the sound card fitting.
If you get a longer sound card you may have problems, the one that came with the board is fine.

Ok, I have a problem that I am finding rather puzzling...

In the last few weeks I started noticing that my computer would hang at DET DRAM when I am powering it up in the morning and I naturally assumed this is the cold boot issue. However, I found this strange as I managed to eliminate cold boot right around 0705 BIOS so I kept an eye on this and soon after I noticed that this seems a bit different than cold boot, or seems so anyway. Why? Because I cannot get the computer to go past DET DRAM without removing at least one memory stick, the booting, then resetting the BIOS settings to defaults, booting again, shutting down, reinstalling the rest of the memory, and then finally booting up successfully and setting my OC settings in the BIOS again...

Very messed up. Memtest86+ 2.11 and Memtest HCI do not show any problems after testing the memory for 3+ hours at either 1600MHz 7-8-7-18-1T or 1800MHz 8-9-7-19-1T. The system is also Prime stable and LinX stable. All voltages are within normal limits, i.e., 1.36250V CPU, 1.35000V QPI/DRAM, 1.65681V DRAM. The rest is all on auto.

No other apparent problems either. Once the system is up and running I can keep powering it down and powering it back up as much as I want and no effect. However, in the morning it never loads and I always have the same problem. Stange thing is that removing power from the system, using the CMOS reset, anything...well...none of it works

Only once I do the procedure in the above specified order does the system actually boot. After that it is flawless.

Is my board going on me? I am really at odds with this issue now especially since stress testing shows absolutely nothing, and I mean absolutely no faults, nothing.

Your cpu temp does'nt look that bad.. but your NB and SB temps are a little high. how much volts you running through those things? According to intel spec the nb and sb can take temps up to 90C but mine never gets over 50C

Look at your auto settings in the bios for NB and SB. It will show the actual values your motherboard is using for auto. Try bumping it down .10 v on both and see if it's still stable.

Your case's ambient temps are probably the cause. Make sure you have a intake fan in the front and a exhaust fan sucking the air out the back. Also adding a small fan to the NB never hurt anybody.
