I'm suprised it runs GTAIV this great. Or is the performance issues I've seen for this game only an issue for ATI cards? Or then simply i7 pwnz in this game.

    hi

I never tested the game with ATI card yet , but I think NFS Undercover also have issues/breaks with ATi cards (drivers) , maybe GTA IV have the same problem .

But seems like GTA IV is also CPU dependent :

    http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,6...essors/?page=2

    QX6850 @3.0Ghz = +10 fps average than E8400@ 3.0Ghz

    QX6850 @3.0Ghz = +5 fps average than E8500@ 4.0Ghz

    ...

As GPU power is concerned, we can give an all-clear. Even at 2,560 x 1,600 (but also at 800 x 600) a Geforce 9800 GT is only slightly slower than a GTX 280 - GTA 4 primarily requires CPU power, reducing the resolution doesn't result in much more fps

    http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,6...13_processors/

    ....

With Core i7 920 and GTX260 Black edition the game runs great !!

    regards

Aha yea seems like a very CPU demanding game and heavily quad core optimized game if a Quad at 3GHz easily beats Dual at 4GHz+ and looks like a dual core would need to be clocked towards 5GHz to match the quads in performance. While it sux for us dual core owners I enjoy seeing such progress that also CPU matters for PC gaming, so yea your 3.8GHz i7 is doing a great job for this game + tests shows that NVIDIA cards currently perform better with quads than ATI cards but I expect that to eventually change as ATI updates the drivers.

wow a game that actualy makes a difference if you run it on a quad....if this keeps up i may have to go quad soon...my E8400 is overclocked to 4.45ghz so were see how much of a performance hit i take for 2 cores....it may be time to pump more juice to it..

    Thumbs up

Overclocked GTX 260 cards are great. I manually OC myself.

I also got lucky and scored two Evga GTX 260 Core 216 cards from Newegg for the price of the vanilla GTX 260. I ordered one of the vanilla cards and they sent me a Core 216 @ 626|2106 with a stock GTX 260 cooler on it in a regular box. My GPU-Z and nVidia CP info are below-

    http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...1&postcount=14

    http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...2&postcount=18

    http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/show...4&postcount=19

I ordered another card vanilla card and got another 216SP model from Evga. Both cards shipped from the NJ warehouse. The second card was 216SP and stock clocks. I saved and flashed the first card's BIOS into it so they would be identical. Both cards can do 730 1532 unlinked on air if I manually control their fans to keep them cool.

GTX 260s take off nicely @ around 660 on the core. I love mine. They're ideal 1920x with AA cards.

It's THAT cpu demanding, because it's not well optimized
Terrible work done there by Rockstar
We shouldn't need Kentsfield's and Yorkfield's and i7's just to play games ... I know that that's going to happen eventually some day (and I'm happy for it ), but trust me these days are not here yet ...
It's just not fair for someone that has a 4870X2 and an E8400 @ 4GHz (just an example), not being able to play a pc game ...

And guess what ... I'm not a dual core owner either, I'm just standing for what's right

Great review mascaras, as always !
My 1MB/s poor internet connection, can not load all screenshots

Great testing Mascaras! Would it be at all possible to show max bench/stress stable OC(s)? I would love to see if this card can run the 1512mhz+ shader strap... Thanks.
