Talking e8600, 2x 4870x2's, Rampage Extreme, CSX Diablo

For my first LN2 session I assembled one beast of a test bench. My aims were 6Ghz 3d stable, which I didnt get working until 2:30AM and I passed out at 3AM so not much testing. I also wanted to push my 8600 because I have seen a few of the same batch doing 6.2-6.3 3D stable, and 6400-6500 1M's. With no coldbug even at -140° I think I may have a winner on my hands here. The REX was a pleasure to work with. Great ram clocking, awesome stability at super high FSB and clocks, and one hell of an extensive BIOS! Great job Asus.

The CPU pot I had is OK at best for LN2 benching, its much better for DI. Temps swing wildly under load, and when pouring. The best I can do is keep it within a 10° range fluctuation. I had it @ -110 to -120 for most of the session. *Sees an F1EE in his future*

    Hardware Setup:
e8600 820Axxx -140°C lowest tested no CB yet
Duniek Copper/Aluminum stepped pot w/ Fluke 52S thermometer
    2x 4870x2 w/ Asus TOP Bios stock heatsinks/no mods. (max 850/960)
    2x Dryer tube pumping 2°C air into the GFX Cards w/ 2x Delta fans (a 140CFM and a 240CFM)
    2x1 GB CSX Diablo (good up to 1080Mhz 8-7-6-18-1T@2.1v or 980Mhz 7-6-6-15-1T@2.1v)
Asus Rampage Extreme (Booted at down to -115°C, not CBB yet either)
Duniek Northbridge Copper/Aluminum Pot mounted onto existing heatsink assembly (removed waterblock). Not going too cold here because of condensation issues
    Xion 800 Watt
    Xitech POST Code PCI Card
    Vista 32 Home vLited

    Bios Setup:
    600FSB (no setfsb)
    1.9 vCore
    1.45 vTT
    2.1 vDIMM
    1.65 vNB
loadline disabled (keep rebooting during windows splash screen if enabled)
Ram set 7-6-5-15-1T all else on Auto. 333Mhz 5:8 strap, memset the subtimings.

2001 sucks in Vista, but I still managed to take 4th place for this setup.

03 is of course a 4870x2's wet dream. Too bad I didnt encounter the "normal" performance for these cards, but instead had the low score "bug." Rubbish imo since only 5-10% of cards get the "normal" performance and the rest have a low score "bug."

05 I was very happy with, although I just couldnt get 41k - so close!

06 was a surprise as I was expecting may 28-29k, but actually broke 30k.

A quick run I started the session with. I forgot to re-run at higher clocks

AM3 is another bench that crossfireX in vista didnt fare to well in.

PiFast was the only 2D bench I ran. I was curious how performance was in vista, and surprising to me it wasnt bad at all. XP is still a touch faster but... this run was TOTALLY unoptimized. Just booted & ran it.

3DM01 - Not tweaked or optimized at all. Will be focusing more on 01 with my next bench session this weekend.

AM3 - last bench I ran when I finally figured out how to get over 6100Mhz Not sure how much more headroom I have until I hit the next wall though, since I didnt push it very hard. We will see how it goes in a few days

3DM03 I was getting ultra low score bug When I first ran the card in 03 (on air) I got about 96K (at 4.8ghz) now at 6Ghz I was getting mid 80K.... no combination of reboots/psu power down/etc would get my scores normal...

damn aquamark in vista with those 2 4870 x2 cards truly is horrible... good thing that everything else looks pretty good nicely done mate
btw you could feed lil bit more voltage to fsbv and to nb good luck in the single card runs

Yes 01 and AM3 suck majorly in Vista. I have 2 4870's on the way to make up for that I will be trying various vTT/vCore combos to see if I can back off vCore a little bit. Thanks

Thanks, they are D9GTR (and at that voltage still under warranty! lol)

Was all that vcore necessary for those benches or were you just working with "safe" settings? I would think you'd only need around 1.8v for 6GHz Try dropping TRFC down to 46 or whatever the number is in the 40s, with 1.7vnb it should work and help a little

No it was not necessary, with a little more vtt and vnb I should be able to lower it a bit. Being my first LN2 runs, and not having a helper, I wasnt worried about best case scenarios. I will continue to refine bios settings and Im shooting for 6.2 for my 3D's this friday. Thanks for the tips

For the most part I left subtimings somewhat loose, since I only had a few hours to bench and I was tired as hell to begin with. These rams (at this speed) can run TRFC 46, Write to Precharged Delayed 17, TRRD 2, tRD_WR 7 and tRTP 7. They may have more in them but Ive never gone past 2.1v.

For some reason all my valids with cpu-z came out bad too

Thanks for digging this up... forgot to add my single card I have not run 32M on this setup yet, as I just got in my Core i7 so I am focusing 32M there for now.

    hey man nice going there

have you tried concentrating on higher CPU clocks
that setup should do it from the looks of it

your session reminds me a lot of my one recently
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=202411

i also had the low score bug ...wish i could have done 160K cause thats what it should be around 6Ghz

your cards cant clock any higher or???

also you should increase your PCI Express frequency as much as you can and dont forget to run native resolutions for the benchmarks as well as as high a refresh rate on screen as possible

try clocking those cards a touch more and you will get past 41K in '05 heh

Thanks man, and yeah going to move to 2:3 divider and try for higher fsb. This cpu loves volts and cold it seems. Had it at -150 idle and it was good lol. Under load should handle a bit colder Im hoping.

Oh they do, im just saving a little something for after I get more cpu nailed down I have 2 dryer tubes with high cfm fans on them to bring in freezing cold air (-6°C here last week). Under load they never went above 40-45°C.

I always run in native w/ high refresh luckily I learned that one a while back...

Ive fried my gigabyte X38-DQ6 running PCIE 119MHz so I havent really messed with it much. MAybe I just had a bum board... this weekend I will try some more PCIE Mhz
