    Locating the Bottleneck

I am ordering a gtx 280 or 4870x2 this weekend. I play a lot of MMORPGs, and FPS games. According to my sig below (my ram is 1:1 with my cpu) do you see anywhere I might encounter a bottleneck with the new card? CPU is @ 3.8, 4gig or RAM 1:1, and 2 Raptor X harddrives in raid.

I don't see a problem. A 3.8GHz Q6600 should be more than enough support for your X2 or GTX 280. 4Gb ram should be plenty for every game out there.

Enjoy your rig. It should rock.

No need to upgrade your PC ( apart from the graphics card )

I have the same hardware, see below. In regards to the X2 you WILL be bottlenecked to some degree, however @ a 3.8 oc you should be sitting pretty good and the fact that you have a quad you'll be sitting better than if you had a dual core. But don't take my word for it, the proof is in the pudding http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=770

Oh, for what it's worth, I'm running my Q6600 at stock right now due to the fact that I'm currently in my build process and with that and my X2 I have no problems in games whatsoever.

I would grab the X2, you may wanna take a look at the link I posted up above. MS cashback is 30% right now, so you could pick one up for as low as $335 after the cashback and a $20 rebate.

I tried a 4870x2 and 4850 CF in my rig before settling on a single 4870 to replace my fried water-cooled heavily OC'd 8800 GTS 512. The x2 was in no way bottle-necked, nor were the 4850s. The only game that wouldn't run maxxed out at 1080p was Crysis. 4870x2 CF can be bottlenecked by a dual core but since you have a quad and a single slot board that's not an issue.

I suggest you take a look at some game performance review of the games you play or intend to play regarding 280 vs 4870x2. In theory the 4870x2 should be the better choice but GT200 OCs better than R770 and can close the gap and not all games respond well to CF but this should change with DX11, by which time your 280 or 4870x2 will be as old as your 8800 GTX is now.

Your system looks fine, doesn't seem like theres any bottlenecks anywhere

Core 2 Duo(Conroe) was based on the Intel Core Duo(Yonah) which was based on the Pentium M(Banias) which was based on the Pentium III(Coppermine).

Core 2 Duo is a Pentium III on meth.

Looks like a really nice setup to me. I have alot of freinds that have similar setups with "GO" chips and they have no issues at all. I'm into flight simulators in the Winter time, and do alot of flying online. All the benchmarks I have seen on those kinds of setups shows they really work well. Even with SLI setups or multi-gpu setups. With the multi-gpu setups guys tend to OCV a little bit which you've already done.

Looks real balanced to me. I would've chosen similar hardware if I hadn't waited for i7. In fact I was looking at Q9550's and had stuff picked out that just about matched your setup.
