    Question e8400 vs q9550 vs q9650

I have an E8400 @ 4.0Ghz at the moment, do you think i should upgrade it to one of these suckers? if so which?
I know both can go to 4.0Ghz, although the Q9550 needs a beefy voltage., however, is it worth the extra ~£150 to go for the 9650??

hmmm..which is better...theres only one way to find out....FIGHT!

but really, will there be a performance increase over my 4.0ghz e8400?

Yes, huge. If 4Ghz is what you want, go for the Q9550, if you want 4.2 - 4.4, 4.5Ghz go for the Q9650. Be sure you have a good mobo though.

Depends on what you do. If all you do is game, then no, the upgrade to a quad isn't worth it. Do you fold? Encode DVDs or edit video? Do anything remotely multithreaded? If you don't do anything multithreaded, there really is NO point to getting a quad.

Hell, I "downgraded" from a Q6700 to an E0 E8400 and I'm much happier. Note that the Q6700 was at ~3.6GHz and the E8400 is at 4.5GHz. Even though I fold, I like the dual better. The nVidia GPU client is so much better at folding (on a GTX 280) than the SMP client that I really don't miss the PPD from the quad, which wasn't all that much better to begin with.

If you have P45 then you go for quads. If you have X38/X48 then you go for dual core. You decide.

So P45 is better for quad than X48? Why?

but anyway, i7 = new intel xtreme mobo. new ddr3. expensive stuff.

I want a quad for future proof-ness, benchmarks, gaming, multitasking, all that.

    thanks for the linkys
