    Stock cooling e8400

just finish up building a new rig..

    E8400
    Rampage Formula
    HyperX Kingston 2x2 GB PC800

I didn't notice but does the stock cooler come with thermal compound?

is it normal for temps to be 40C with stock cooler? is there an option in bios to make the fan spin faster to make it less hot? i think 40C is too much..

let me know..am new to the Intel family...

well the stock cooler is quite small....

im betting your right around on par for the stock cooler...

the stock cooler is not very good.... for not very high price you can go qith an arctic freezer pro, or something of the likes, but you must remember that 40C is not necessarily "bad" for a stock cooler... but i wouldnt run a stock cooler even at stock speeds... if you want better temps there are alot of great aftermarket air coolers that can be had for very cheap.

I do not really aircool anything but im sure someone here will be able to tell you shich one would be the best noise/performance compromise...

sometime there is option to ramp up fan speed after a certain temp if its set to 100% at 50 C change it to 30 and it will always run at full
    Case: Corsair 400R
    PSU: Corsair HX1000W
    mobo: Maximus IV Gene
    CPU: 2500K @ 4.2ghz 1.19 volts

+1 if you look into the bios there should be a fan control section.... and most boards have an automatic fan control... they may call it something like "dynamic fan control"

but it should have a few different options as to which fans you wanna set, and you should be able to disable the control, and manually set whatever speed you want, just be mindful that the fan speed increase can make quite a large amount of difference in teh noise produced...

Here's a screenshot of the OC made, the only thing i changed was the fsb, i made it 445..

the memory should have headroom, but each set is different... most memory sets will do 900

but only trying it will tell you...

most importantly is what are your loadec cpu temps..

but if you do run your ram overclocked 24/7 i would definitely recommend a fan setup just to keep ram temps as low as possible, and it looks like your right around 40-45C at idle... that is quite high, and will probbaly be pretty high loaded...

even at 900mhz i bet the ram would be ok... im just talking for long term, as most ram will do that without even thinking... (not saying all will)

but you can try your loaded temps as i have seen e8400's running 4ghz on stock coolers 24/7

with reasonable load temps... what you can try is remove the stock cooler and replace the tim with something better and see if your results improve

under heavy load like prime... you dont want it to exceed 70's but lets say your gaming..... or whatever you wanna keep it in the 60's max....

im sure you cold do more... but its a safety thing
