Recommendation for i7 920 mobo and ram

    Heya,

Could I get some good recommendations for a good OC mobo for an i7 920 and some RAM to match? (I'd like the RAM to accomodate going up to atleast 4Ghz).

For a mobo I allready have my eye on the GIGABYTE GA-EX58-EXTREME, since it seems to have made a good impression on people here, and also the fact that is has integrated option for watercooling the NB - wich I will take advantage of. I'm still open for opinions on what is the best though.

As for RAM, I'm looking for something affordable that will be stable and allow me to OC up to atleast the 4Ghz mark without dropping the divider too much. I'm just totally outdated on whats been happening wiht the DDR3, so I hope someone can give me some tips on what the current hot modules are. Still uncertain if im gonna go 3 or 6 GB, but I'm leaning towards 3 to start I think, depending on the price point.

My rig is watercooled and is used primarily for gaming, atleast thats what I'm focusing the build on.

    Hoping for god feedback

    @tankguys.com

as for the mobo, from what I have been reading the Giga boards have vdroop issues....

I like the R2E for the best i7 board around

Hey man, do you have any reference to these vdroop issues? I just order the Giga Extreme and I'd like some info on it's flaws before I set it up.

The gigabyte boards have received an enormous amount of attention on these forums because of a contest, looking for the gigabyte thread regarding the X58 Extreme Gigabyte board with the most replies.

It isn't necessarily the best board, just receives the most attention due to some marketing strategies.

Personally, I'd pick up the Rampage Extreme 2. Asus has a reputation for quality, and gigabyte has seemed to get their act together, but their bioses were once extremely flawed.

Il make a note of the rampage board, but looks like that one is even more expensive, and also lack the watercooling that comes with the Gigabyte.
I guess il read up on both and see if there is enough data to support going for Rampage over Gigabyte despite the points mentioned above.

The ram is rated 1.9v and really for i7 but for th earlier core chips that use higher Vcore.
The i7 has a warning not to go over 1.65v

there are lots of ram out there for the i7, just google "i7 DDR3"

and prob go for a 3x2G kit so your running 6G,

    I went for a more expensive ram the Kingston HyperX DDR3 3GB 2GHz 3x1G
but i will be OCing first then i'll pick up another set to get over 6G

that is the voltage for overclock on the CSX, it has a JDEC of under 1.5 IIRC and will work fine on nehalem platform, just recommending the best, although it doesn't come in 3 stick kits..... you could call tank guys about it, or just buy 2 kits and have a spare stick for backup

I would upgrade also but @ this time the boards are way to expensive so I'm going to wait till the prizes drop little and then get some DFI or EVGA board the only company's with real good support i think.

GAR do you have any vdroop on your UD5? I am planning on ordering the i7 parts in my sig, but with this vdroop thing I am nervous. But I like the Ultra-Durable 3 on the UD5, with the really high quality PCB and components...
