A classmate of mine claims to have an uncle at AMD, and says he can give me a discount on chips, because his uncle supposedly works there. He has been sort of slow about the whole thing, and I'm doubtful he his uncle is an engineer there at all. Do you have any ideas for questions I could ask him to find out if he's BS'ing me? I live in SF bay area, CA, so silicon valley is nearby. Does AMD make chips there? Any ideas? He wants me to wait till Xmas but its doubtful he would have it and I want to upgrade soon.

amd dosnt have an employee discount, only samples. but if u can push for it. and in freemont amd has a test fab, engineering and offices no production chips

and people on the inside dont share things i have family in NV and friends in sony and amd and a few others, they dont give out any info other than something interesting might happen at xx week

Yeah, because it puts their jobs in jeopardy. If this kid actually had an uncle working for AMD, he'd be putting his uncle in the line of fire with such things.

yup, i cant even use some computers becouse they have things that arnt for the public. and that kids uncle wouldent say any thing anyways amd is a pain to get anything out of even from reps with product demos they keep the info about the product with the engineers and every1 else gets the public info or less
