It does seem rather counter-intuitive that a feature designed to get problem posts removed as quickly as possible (by allowing users to alert mods to their presence) makes those who would report them wait for so long. Particularly annoying when you're dealing with a worst-case scenario, when a spambot has gotten through registration and is going on a posting spree.

I can only guess, but it is there so that someone cannot SPAM the report system every 5 seconds as well. That feature is just as easily abused as other aspects of the site.
It sends an email to every moderator of the respective forum.. so abuse would be just as much of a PITA as the spam.
The spam will be gone as soon as a mod with power in the forum its in (or a supermod/admin) gets here

I understand, but really, how likely would it be that someone would abuse the report feature? If you want to spam it, and considering how slow the actual reporting process is, let alone the wait period required, you'd have to be pretty determined. Secondly, considering that it sends an e-mail to the mod team, if you do abuse it you're going to get banned in pretty short order.

It just makes the lives of those who want to do the right thing that much harder.

The time you are talking about is configurable.. which is why it is set to 1min.. that is what I meant is all. Yes they could reduce it, but if it was set short, it could be abused to a greater degree.

Same with waiting 1min or whatever between posts, you can only post once every 30sec or 1min.

I am, of course, drawing my own conclusions, I have no idea why, just explaining possibilities.

I realise it's configurable - thus why I think it should be configured to be something a little less irritating for people trying to help out. As for post wait times, that's another thing again - and it's not 30 seconds, it's 70.

That spam is really annoying... How come there isn't spam for some time and then there is a massive "attack" of spambots.

Yeah, it's 15:48 here too. But I think there are no European mods who could deal with the problems.

sounds like the spammer (s) or spam bot are offline now...remains to get their posts and accounts deleted and banned...

If you report something you need to leave a comment on the thread that you reported it. Mods have to sift through hundreds of reported threads if we don't do this. Thanks

I don't think so; they immediately get the link to the post you report as well as your forum ID.

Right but what I'm saying is 100 people might send a report for the same thread that has already been reported. Its just etiquette.. leave a comment that you reported it and that way 99 others won't report the same thread.
