Haha, Nate, that last one is great. Perfect action shot.

Thought I'd add a pic of my own, though I have no intention of winning anything. I just like it cause it looks so bada$$

    high school track for you:

Lucky me, I've been taking my DSLR to the football game for a couple of times now.

Here are some of my favorite shots. I'll add more as I find them... I haven't really dug through the shots yet :p

Taken with a Nikon D40, 55-200mm VR Nikon lens.

Soulburner what kind of lens do you use? I would like to get sharp pictures like you (provided that your lens doesn't cost $1000 :p)

I took my pics with a D40 + 55-200 VR. Since I'm in a stadium, I really need the telephoto (my 70-300 Nikon 1/4-5.6 had the proper zoom range but had blurry pics at 300mm)

    What do you suggest?

Nikkor 70-300 VR. Proper focus and fast shutter speeds help a lot. You could get very similar images with the 55-200 VR.

In yours above, you had some motion blur.

Try your 70-300 on a tripod. You might not have enough light to stop your movement.

Yeah, that's definitely a good point. Unfortunately though I can't bring a tripod into the stadium... It's hard enough to "sneak in" my 70-300 lens + hood since it's so long already :p

His pics show motion blur though, which is caused by having shutter speeds too slow. Looking at it some more though, it could be some of both.

Since it's sometimes difficult to detect small amounts of blur from the camera LCD screen. Is there some kind of "golden rule" for shutter speeds? I know that I was taking pictures at speeds in excess of 1/1000 s.

Can you post the EXIF data on the pics? I have a hard time believing that was over 1/1000, as that would freeze all motion and camera shake.

Tensors are nice they need to stay tight though it bugs me to have to tighten my trucks twice a day. :/ Never used Krux though they seem like good trucks. I havent been able to skate for 8 months I tore up my knee real bad and its not looking good for the next 8 months

Soulburner correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't you do between 1 and 1.5x the focal length?

So if you were at 200mm you would want between 1/200 and 1/300 of a second.

By the way I love your shots. I'm going to San Francisco this weekend but I'm not expecting much.
