Try Roaring Camp up here in Felton, ride one of the narrow gauge trains up the mountain, tons of stuf to shoot in the old RR town, and all the redwoods and trains on the way up bear mountain. You can also catch the big trees train to santa Cruz, and it will drop you off at the boardwalk, hang ou. For the day and take the train back in the evening. Great way to beat all the traffic.

I know all about Felton, been there multiple times when I was younger with my family, took all the different train rides. I was actually in Santa Cruz the other night, needed to get away so me and a few friends drove over the hill at like 12 am. It was interesting. Moonless night, the ocean and the sky melted into one. The mist muffled all the sounds but the waves crashing onto the beach. I thought it was very poetic.

It may be 2AM here, and I may not have slept yet, but it is a new day.

By the way, beautiful shot Weevil

I'm sure you can see I spent the last 24 hours on bees:

I found that you have to get the lens really close with the 60mm and this lens wasnt a 1:1, I think if I end up buying one I will go for a 100-105mm 1:1, from what I have read you dont have to get the lens so close to the subject like you do with the smaller focal length macros.

Indeed, I have the Sigma 150mm F2.8 and It's great at getting a good macro from a distance where you don't spook the subject or cast a shadow. It's uncanny hpw we are grabbing similar shots even though we are continents apart. Nice shots chaps keep em coming. Shall we start another setion with a weekly theme or is that too specialist?

Tarowah def. get the canon 100mm f2 macro.
Don't by the L model...It's not worth it unless you need IS
    I know.. I own the L model..

But truthfully for the money you might be better off getting the sigma 150mm or the tamron 180mm

But the regular canon 100mm macro USM is super fantastic.

But 60mm to 100mm isn't a huge jump like 150 or 180mm and you still need to be pretty close the the subject.
