Thanks well I do miss a lot of things from Nikon but I got a few better features over Nikon D40 which makes up with the missing features nicely.

I haven't had time to test the Hitech GNDs, waiting to give the camera a good try at landscaping. .

no they are custom picture styles.
These are on-the-fly alterations the camera does to a picture once its taken or directly during live view shooting, and even movie mode.
yes you can shoot a movie with these custom styles, and thats where the real fun begins.

when you go into the camera you can choose, standard, neutral, black and white, etc etc.
there are 3 custom ones there #1, 2 and 3. by default they are "standard" with all the sliders at 0
normally you can choose one of the onboard canon styles (standard, landscape, neutral, etc) and alter some basic settings that dont make much difference.
but Custom styles are ones that people have created that create some extremely jaw dropping pictures.

here are the custom styles i use, download and unrar them some where.
    http://broveakphotography.zapto.org/...tureStyles.rar

unrar each style to a folder or where ever you want or unrar them all into a single folder, it doesn't matter.. the .pf2 files are what you want.

i recommend playing with some of the Kevin Wang styles, or the Fuji or Kodachrome styles.
the Fuji and Koda have more subtle changes but are a very nice style set to use for every day pictures.
Kevin wang's are much MUCH more drastic and each is dependant on lighting, shadows, etc.
i suggest trying the 300 style, Japanese Style, and Zero v3 styles.

with the Kevin Wang styles, any style that uses non english characters will not work with the English canon programs.
not sure what language your Windows is using or which language the canon program is using but i recommend English or non of them may work, i just dont know about non english installations.

you do not need to shoot in RAW, these will show up immediately when shooting only jpeg, but if you want to use RAW, you can then load the RAW file into the canon DPP (Digital Photo Professional) program and load each pf2 style into the raw and you can see the effect of each and every style file i am giving you.

    ok so here we go...

load up the canon software on your computer.
most notably EOS utility for remote shooting and other good things
Picture Style Editor, so you can create your own Picture Styles (this is a very complex program to use)
    and Digital Photo Professional

what you would do is plug in your camera, start the EOS Utility and choose "Camera Settings/Remote Shooting"

once that all opens, up over on the right hand program screen is the full camera settings, you see "Shooting Menu"
    click "Register User Defined Style"

once that opens you have 3 tabs, each for the 3 user settings on the camera
click the 'User Def. 1' to start, and then click little folder icon on the right of that screen to open a browse menu to go search for your style sets you just downloaded from me.

Once in the folder pic one....

and then choose the pf2 file and click open in the browse window

now you should see the User Def. 1 slot now shows the name of the pf2 style file you just chose.
sometimes the name of the file differs from the name that the User Def. 1, 2 or 3 window shows, thats ok. the ***.pf2 is usually the name of the visual style. sometimes the actual name the canon program sees is the same, sometimes not.

now, click ok at the bottom of the "Register Picture Style File" window and it will upload this into your camera.
(make sure your camera doesnt go to sleep or it wont work.)

Now click the "Picture Style" menu option and you can choose which picture style you want. Choose User Def. 1 since that is where we just stored the custom style. and this will set the camera to use it.

now, click the "Live View Shoot" button in the lower portion of the program window.
now a larger live view shooting window will open up and you will instantly see that you are shooting with live view using the custom style you just picked.
you do NOT have to shoot a picture to see the effect, the effect is instant so you can sit and upload different styles until you find one you want.

now to change to a different style you must close the lie view window, you can not change or upload a new style set with the live view window running.

dont be surprised if alot of the kevin wang styles do not produce a shot that you like.
they are all amazing shots but are VERY specific to the environment like i mentioned above.
just play around with your shutter speeds and lighting and shadows and you can create some pretty amazing shots.

i for one am praying someone makes a cross-processed picture style,, i love the look and feel of that type of picture as you might have been able to tell since i post alot of them using that effect, but its done in post.

given flickr's 100mb limit i am not sure why anyone would use their poopy service
i have tried time and time again to post links here with the link they provide and they never work.

not to mention i filled up that 100mb limit in about 30 minutes....

host your own with a simple cheap web server, or use picasa or better yet the no limits imageshack

Yeah 100mb is a turnoff, but it gets no better then they limit the picture size too. You can't post high-res.
I don't know much about Picas, but imageshack will drown the your visitors in pron, blot ware, stupid pop up ads.
I would definitely stay away from imageshack,
