Picture of the Day

Finally, a night where the stars shines, tall and bright!

The clouds where beginning to roll in while I was assembling the equipment, so after some awesome time of looking at deep sky objects. One in particlar really caught my eye this time, M42:

I had not seen it properly before and although these astrophotos are nothing like what you see through the eyepiece, believe me it was still breathtaking, I could see details in the gas around the object!

Having everything set up I had to try fitting my 450D on it, not expecting anything at all, just a test. And it worked fine, got this funny picture while testing. There was no guiding used and there was some wind.

Don't have the original with the EXIF on my laptop right now, but it was shot with a Nikon D90, Sigma 17-70mm lens, probably an ISO of 800 and a shutter speed of 1/40 second.

Ahaha, yea he's holding something he made out of 'Knex', he insisted they be in the picture. xD

Here is the moon, tonight, about 5:40-ish Central Standard Time
shooting thru a thin layer of clouds also

1/125th Second
F/4
Nikon Quantarray AF LD 70-300mm @ 300mm
using the $20 fotodiox Nikon to EOS adapter, then use something (like a piece of plastic to hold the iris/diaphram/shutter release arm wide open, so the lens is F/4 throughout the entire range of the lens.
manual focus only, no AF confirmation. (although there are a few versions of this adapter that do have AF confirmation)
