I'll update the EXIF tomorrow when I'm not on my laptop, I don't have the original saved here.

Hey elisha after looking at your picture and your settings, noticing no movement could you not have set your shutter to a slower speed while still maintaining a decent iso level?

assuming he was using a tripod, yes.
if he had a tripod, maybe he wanted the grainy look.

I posted this on another forum:

"So a buddy and I had the opportunity to break in and shoot an old abandoned mill.
Originally established in 1823, it was called Barber Paper Mill.

***There was lots of graffiti all over the walls making it a very colourful place. I post processed them in a way that makes them look the way I saw them and felt how it should look like since it was supposedly haunted as well.***

Lots of ISO 3200 shots and the grain in some have been accentuated to make it look vintage. No HDR and all processed exclusively in LR 3 Beta and never saw PS CS4.

There were many more shots PP worthy but I kinda got tired after PPing 60+ and gave up.

The whole set can be found here:
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/elishaj...7622799231594/"

The grain was intentional and no tripod was used even though I did take mine.

How nice being able to get decent clean shots with ISO 3200?? Even with my Rebel XS, ISO 1600 gives (usually) very nice shots. It's a real lifesaver with non-stabilized lens.

The only reason it is ISO 3200 is cause Canon in their infinite wisdom does not allow custom configurable upper ISO limit like Nikon/Sony does.
Or else I would have set my Auto ISO upper limit to 6400 without thinking twice especially in this situation since grain adds to the character of this old building.

One of the only times I manually lower my ISO is when I'm using off camera lighting. Otherwise my manual ISO adjustment is to get beyond the Auto ISO limitation of ISO 3200.

it also helps having a 7D. i don't like shotting ISO1600 with my XSi, but it's still ok.

To me grain is ok as long as there is detail retained.
I have kinda embraced grain and try to work with it.
If I find it really detracts from the image, there is always Noise Ninja and I can selective remove it if need be.

No in LR you can use the adjustment brush and do a negative Clarity on grain.
I normally export to CS4 for Noise Ninja.

yeah you cant set the auto upper limit but you can use iso expansion in the custom menu (turn it on) and let it go higher than 3200, or just manually set the iso to 6400 or higher.
