Great shots everyone!

Oh yea. I think this was more a coupling/de-coupling demonstration. If they actually refuelled they'd be flying straight for a good while.

Speaking of air show, here's my last entry from the air show...

    Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II

Last, but certainly not least is my favorite aircraft of the day - and in our country's arsenal. This, even more so than the Osprey, is the most incredibly complicated aircraft, probably in the world. Capable of both supersonic flight, vertical takeoff & landing and literally hovering in place.

Here it is in formation with the aforementioned F/A-18 Hornet (bottom) & Harrier Jump Jet (top).

Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, F/A 18 Hornet & Harrier Jump Jet by hokiealumnus, on Flickr

...and here it is all by its beautiful lonesome.

Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II by hokiealumnus, on Flickr

It can fly low & slow...

Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Low & Slow by hokiealumnus, on Flickr

...or stop & pause for photos. It was moving the nose left & right, just hovering there in what I'm sure is an incredibly difficult maneuver for the pilot.

Well, that's all from MCAS Cherry Point. Thanks for looking, C&C is always welcome, especially since it's my first time capturing this kind of stuff.

    ...later!

HDR photography was invented for realism. The fact that some people use HDR software to push their photos into the surreal doesn't change that

That is indeed a very sexy piece of engineering, even though it is already quite "old" in modern development terms. I would love to know what kind of up-to-date crafts they already have or working on behind those black curtains..

Great pictures, especially for your first attempt! I tried to capture bats the other day, but failed miserably ^_^

You might be onto something. There is a scaffolding company next to it, so those might also be scaffolding pipes.

Bird photography with just a 50mm lens? I am looking forward to that. You need advanced ninja stealth skills for those to get close enough. I can't capture anything remotely wild with just the 50mm >_<

    Obligatory picture, quite old though:

This... Corvus Corona (? i think) was brave enough to let me get my camera as close as 30cm away from it and it would stand there chilling and looking at me and its surroundings.

Those are great shots for such high ISO hoki, @ over 1600 my D7100 is screaming with noise compared to my D5200, yet they share the same sensor

Thanks. You're right, the 70D handles noise quite well. Even when it's there, it's not that intrusive. Of course, a 6D or 5D Mark III would be better, but the 70D's is easily handled in post. The one of the guy hitting the homer above is ISO 2500. Here's one of downtown Durham at ISO 6400.

Downtown Durham at Night by hokiealumnus, on Flickr

This one is also ISO 6400, but it has some grain actually introduced with the B&W processing.

Cascading B&W by hokiealumnus, on Flickr

EDIT - I should also note at large resolutions, there is absolutely noise apparent in these. I wasn't going for no noise - because you get no noise at the expense of detail. Rather, I was going for a balance between noise vs. detail, erring on the side of detail.

I am killing some time at Hong Kong airport on my way back from Computex. I couldnt take my DSLR, so I decided to upgrade my always-with-me camera to a Sony RX100 and apart from the screen, which I totally scratched in this just one week, I quite like it. Need to update my software so it can work with its raw files in the right way.

    der8auer at Computex:

    Sony RX100, Iso 160, f/1.8, 1/30s, 10mm (28mm in 35mm terms)
