    Q9550 - my first quad- OC'd to 3.8ghz *now with issues on past 450fsb

    Sooo.... I'm kinda typing this expecting to get a BSOD so I'm gonna be brief - I had to mess with settings and lower FSB while raising the multi to get this chip to boot - I didn't even both getting into windows with out overclocking

    I've been playing with wolfdales for a little bit now but there was a nice little deal on this E0 Q9550 that I just couldn't pass up on

    I'm on my quest to overclock but I'm happy so far - that out of the box at 1.328v its at least running

    vTT is at 1.2v - FSB terminal voltage is at 1.6v - my GTL refs are at .63x for CPU and .67x for NB (I think - i'm kinda tired - will write down and note shortly)

    Well just ran prime95 (4 instances) for 5 hours and while it got "high" in temps - peaked out at 70c and then lowered down to 65 range it had zero errors/warning

    High temps you got there even on E0 CHIP, my C1 Hits 55-60 (<- Prime, in gaming 45-50c) whit 1.38V and 3900Mhz, I belive that all becouse of my high 1.25VID. Maybe your E0 got lower VID and it is possible to run 1.2-1.3 Vcores, or does it get unstable if you lower from 1.32?

    i'm gonna check - it might be my seating on my heatsink or how i applied my TIM

    my VID on this chip is 1.175v - didn't notice til just right now that that's what it was

    I belive that you could do 3,8Ghz much lower vcore, maybe your Motherboard is holding you.

    Just lowered the vcore to 1.264v and its been running Prime95 for about 30 minutes now - temps have peaked at 62c on 2 of the cores

    remember the above settings were from first boot - I got the cpu - and dialed in nominal settings to see if it was stable or just boot - I know I'll miss the high fsb clocking on my wolfdale

    but for now its time to test and clock this little gem of a chip

    Nice nefariouscaine i'm testing my Q9650 on the P5K deluxe also bios 0902 i think that yes thin mobo is holding us back cauz it doesn't have intermediate values of vtt etc...

    Could you plz post your bios settings ? all values...so i can compare and also help you as we both runing the same mobo

    Cheers

    you'll have to bear with me and wait the 11 or so hours while I'm at work but I'd be disappointed to find out I need to get a new board already

    I might look into those gigabyte ud3 boards and then call that my x-mas present for myself but... then i still wanna get water cooling...

    Sergio - I'm thinking of removing my sink that is on the side of the board - over the mofsets there (think thats what they are...) so i can remount my heatsink vertically to check temps that way - I'm trying to find out if there is anything really negative about removing that bloody thing

    It also depends which one of you are running small FFT's.

    ok - just got done running my stress test at work and it was priming for 13 hours at 1.26v-1.27v - temps peaked out at 68c at around noon (in my closed room, and at around the hottest time of the day) - mind you this is with me treating the tmax as being 100c not 105 or 95 so that might be relative to your comparison on temps

    I cannot for the life of me get this thing stable at 500fsb - nor can i get it stable at 475

    right now it seems rock solid at these settings for 3825mhz at 450fsb

    static read = disabled
    LLC = enabled
    Transcaction Booster = enabled - value set to lvl - 2

    vcore set on bios = 1,300
    vcore read in cpuz = 1,272
    PLL= 1,6
    vtt (fsb) = 1,2
    nb = 1,55
    sb = 1,05
    cpu ref 0,63
    nb ref 0,67

    ------

    I've tried to max out the vtt to 1.4v - it booted - wouldn't load windows -
    tried nb volts to 1.7v - nadda still -
    tried pll at 1.7v - nadda -
    tried upping the vcore just because to 1.4 in bios - 1.375'ish in cpuz - that booted into windows but immediate crash

    anyone else thinking this board is holding me back??

    You'll have to up vtt, to get anywhere close to 4Ghz

    I'm running mine at 1.70v & 0.63 GTL. I have the option of running 1.44vtt & 0.67 GTL, but the 0.67 GTL is a little quirky past 475 fsb.

    vtt affects other volts, vcore, nb, and gtl. You may have to tweak all these.

    me thinks i'm giving up on this quad and going back to that dual - that thing has been running nice at 560fsb zero issues and lightning fast - I really think its my board - now when you say .67 GTL you mean the cpu GTL cause I have 2 setting on this board .63 or .61 - no option for .67

    once again this implies to me that the board is holding me back
