    OMG these are sweet!
    Random writes test next please!

When 400$ will get me 160GB two drive setup making 500read/500write then I'll hit the buy button
    meaning just 8-9 times cheaper...

Someone should give us more ram banks...

Enough for any game except HL2. Start and load times fasten significantly. 200 Euro for 16GB Ram.

I'm .1ms in RAID with my mtrons (as are a few other people on XS). If the drive and controller are decent you should see good access times.

Are current hard disk test utilities even capable of properly measuring an SSD's access times? They are made measure milliseconds, not to measure microseconds.

Nopes. They need a 1000 times better resolution.

it's new tech, so obviously price is going to be blown out of proportion. back in the days, we payed for 300mhz CPU's for a few hundred... so you get my point. by the time this X25-E gets to your $32 range (if it ever does), i'm pretty sure there will be newer tech out by then, like non volatile RAM for OS and SSD for data storage.

Where is the proof that it probably only costs $100 to make? I'd like to see it, as there is little evidence to support that claim.

I have measured actual ms results using the Mtron Mobi 32GB, Mtron Pro 16GB, and Memoright 120/120 SSD's. Using IOMeter and the full readable partition of each drive the true random access time of .03 to .08 ms was achieved on average. *Below rated spec of .1 ms. *

No smaller versions. And I think it is a good thing. 16gb are too small for all but linux.

The street price for the 2.5" 80GB X25-M -- and its 80GB 1.8" X18-M counterpart -- will drop from $600 to $525 on November 30. 160GB variants of the X25-M/X18-M will show up in the first half of 2009 and will initially be priced at $990.

Moving over to the single-level cell (SLC) parts, Intel will introduce its high performance 32GB X25-E for $700 on November 30. For those that are patient, the price will drop to $575 on December 28. A 64GB part will be introduced in the first half of 2009 for $990.

    I don't agree.

My OS, all programs and a dozen of favourite games take 20 GB. If I moved both Baldur's Gates somewhere, the rest would fit.
But anyway, it's not for OSes and programs, but for databases. Then, 16 GB is often enough.

IMO, it is possible to boot from any HDD/SSD just for the ntldr/ntdetect.com/GRUB/etc and actually load Windows/Linux from a different disk.
The fact that there are no Windows drivers is an even bigger problem

Sounds nice, but I doubt that it works. FusionIO is not a drive until OS loads it's driver.
FusionIO says that there are x64 Windows drivers.

Please show some IOMeter random reads/writes tests with linear scaling. Sequential reads and writes are boring :p
I want to buy 2 Mtron Mobi 3000 32GB, SLC http://www.mtron.net/English/Product...e=MSD-SATA3025 and raid them. They are abit over 200E. Are they worthy or its better to get one single X25-E instead ?

The Custom PC review I mentioned earlier does not show the Mtron 3000 series in a favourable light... i'd say wait for the X25-E 64GB and the end of year price cut

This news snippet may also lower prices on SSDs in general, if Samsung plans to crush any competition.

    256 GB MLC SSD @ 220 MB/s reads and 200 MB/s writes....bring it on....but please be of a reasonable price.

16gb is great. Get 4x 16gb and Raid 0 them for better results than 2x 32gb.

i need to see some benchmarks that can prove the 200mb write speed. Most of these mlc drives (except intel) have problems with small writes, it just seems a little too good to be true

The abysmal write performance of most MLC drives has to do with the the controller, (pretty much) all MLC drives use the same JMicron controller. These are supposed to have a controller that is designed by Samsung, so I hope they did a better job than JMicron. To know for sure though, we'll just have to wait and see for the reviews. I'd be more than happy if they perform on par with Intel's drives and offer better prices for the storage you get than Intel. We need competition you know.

    Its 525$ tho, not 575$

But you will first really see a big pricecut in mid 2009 I guess, when they change from 50nm NAND to 32nm.

Unless volume and such increases alot in the meantime.
