    Recommend a board X99 or Z170 for 6700K or 5820K

    Hi fellow forum members

    It has been a while since I did my upgrade. Current running a i5 2500K @ 4.4ghz, 8GB ram, GTX1060.

I have decided to go for a i7 since I will stream abit here and there, and maybe in the near future games will benefit from the more threads.
So I have nailed it down to the 5820K and the 6700K, leaning abit more towards the 5820K, since maybe in the near future we will benefit from more cores. The price difference between the 2 is like 50 euro , being the 5820K is more expensive. I just orientated the boards seems the Z170 is cheaper compared to the X99.
But oh my there are so many boards out there and I have been away for long time in this forum.
Which motherboard brand/model do you recommend for respectively 6700k and 5820k?
I will run it on air ( noctua NH-U14S or D-15, depending on the board) and overclock it.

Other things to consider I will probably run a Samsung 950 pro ssd, the 960 series are announced but they probably abit ouf of my budget so are the Intel 750 series. Looking at the 512GB for my needs. Tho a bare minimum of 250 should do , since thats what I use atm for the last 5 years for OS + games.
For the audio I use a dedicated USB DAC.

Thank you, for your recommendation. Another X99 board I heared about is the Asus Sabertooth, but that is more of a Workstation board I believe? It is however more expensive 317 euro. And the X99-A II is a more attractive price point 250 euro.

How is the overclocking on the board? And how does it compare with the Sabertooth? Is there anything you dont like about the board ?

sabertooth was released in 2014, x99-a II is newer board 2016.
X99-A II has u.2 and m.2 support, it also has type a and type c support.
with aura support, just in case you want to add RGB led.
i'm using the first revision X99-A, it's a good solid board. been running it 24/7 since 2014.
was able to OC my 5820k to 4.3ghz with 1.184v, now i'm using a v3 xeon cpu.
    here's a mini review of X99-A II http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...99-A-II-Review

Thanks for sharing your experience will have a read

On a side note I checked the reviews on newegg.com, allot of negativity about this board, maybe it was a bad badge? Are those problems corrected meanwhile?

i have an m5E and it has been nothing but a pain since it likes to drop ram and i had to seat the cpu 3 times. the 2016 boards seem much higher quality and more user friendly so i would get one of those like stym said.

most of the 2016 versions are in stock and have a type C connector. they also list broadwell-e on it.
