Oh yes, because 32M is really the only benchmark worth to bench. In fact, if you can't run your 32M under 8 minutes, you're a lousy overclocker ...

There are many other benchmarks out there that can be run faster on an E8600 at full speed .

Yep, the current 32M WR is this one

Then again, it is a question of days, if not hours, for this WR to be broken with the new gen CPU's

Massman, do you indeed think so? Ok, 1M... and maybe Pifast and 3d2k1 as well. 3d2k3 is buggy, 05 - cpu limited, 06 needs more than 2 cores, Vantage is all about cpu multithreading, Wprime. What's else left on hwbot to bench where Nehalem wouldn't own?

Did you see me say that all other benchmarks are still doable with the E8600? No.

In the past, new technology meant new high scores, look at the C2D and even the A64, benchmarking records were set at unbelievable heights just because of the new tech. Now, we can actually enjoy S775 benching for some time as the Core I7 doesn't touch the frequencies of the E8600 yet.

If you don't accept that the world of hardware is constantly changing, you'll be stuck in 2008 forever.

MInd these new scores come at one hell of a price. Enough of a gain to be worth it? That comes down to the individual

Indeed, I didn't But I quoted you saying "many benchmarks", and I wanted to know which these "many" are

Then again, I agree, I'm kinda "stuck in 2008", and I'm going to remain there some significant time in 2009 as well, I think. Reasons for it have been debated over and over again ever since the 3D Vantage introduction, and there's no need to start it once again in public

P.S. Fugger, bring on the real 32M carnage, we know you can it
