Angry Love my PS3... hate the controllers!

    Hey,

I've had a launch day PS3 for ages and it's a damn nice bit of kit, but why are the controllers so CRAP. The grotesque 15 year old design sits in your hands like a small turd, and the L2/R2 buttons are just horribly positioned (even with add-on triggers). The 360 pad is miles better and so much easier to use.

So I'm wondering if there are any decent third party controllers out there that are any good?

    I want one of these!!

    Cheers,

    Suman

One of the reasons I ended up with a 360 was because of the controllers, that and the fact it was out before the PS3 The PS3 is a rockin' blu ray player mind you

To be honest my experiences with 3rd party controllers have been awful, they just don't have the same 'feel' as the genuine console controllers. Even the logitech controller I had for my first xbox was dodgey. The problem (for me at least) with the PS3's controllers is the fact they are so ridiculous featherlight, have you tried the dual shock 3 (PS3 controller with vibration)?

Agreed, Sony controllers are miles better than anything else.
    Windows 7 + SSD:
Mode: AHCI, default Microsoft driver or latest Intel RST
    Defrag: Off
Hibernation: Off (use Sleep mode, recommend a UPS)
Indexing: On (it only indexes a few locations, not your whole system unless you tell it to)
Page File: On (set to the minimum of 16MB if you have a large amount of RAM, disabling not recommended)
    Prefetch: On
Superfetch: On (RAM is always faster than an SSD - use it)
System Restore: Off (with regular backups)
Browser Cache: RAM Only, Disk Cache Off (How to with Chrome)
Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Downloads to HDD (Public Libraries too, see above link about junctions)
    UAC: On!

Bring back the N64 pad thats what I say! That pad would have been perfect if they had sorted out a way to stop the analogue sticks from grinding themselves into a fine white powder.

The 360 controller is good but I can't stand it for beat em ups. It took me a while to get used the to PS3's bigger shoulder buttons, when I first got it I kept throwing grenades by accident in Resistance Fall of Man and couldn't figure out why.

Yeah 3rd party controllers haven't been great in my book. Only ones I've had was for Xbox, and those followed the original Xbox design just added some extra features on it.

logitech has one thats ps3 xbox and pc compatible that is like the ps3 but with a better grip on, but i dont think that u are holding the controller properly if u have problems with the l/r2 (dont take offense alot of people complain coming from an xbox since they dont hold it right)

Yeah, I learned that moving from a PS1 (no analog sticks) to a PS2 back in the day. You cant really hold the controller, merely put your fingertips under the sides and use the rest of your hand to reach the sticks and the shoulder buttons. But yeah, the 360 controllers are better.

How is the D-pad though? Sony is known to have the best D-pad by far, and the Logitech controller doesn't seem to copy that well from the pics.

You guys have got to be kidding me, I LOVE the Dual Shock 3.

I can see the 'feel' being an opinion thing, but technically speaking it's the best controller I've ever used.

I have to agree, after owning a PS3 for a few months as a Blu ray Player, and inevitably trying some PS3 games on the side ... I finally found a game I like on the PS3 ... MotoGP8 (Hey I'm a Biker) I'm far too used to using a PC for traditional games like COD4 and Oblivion, but here was a game I thought I could learn afresh with a new controller like a gamepad.

Well, the PS3 gamepad is tiny, its horrible ... I need to have a grip of things and let my fingers do the talking ... as in translation to what happens on screen, but this toy keeps sliding out of my hands, there is no natural hand grip?

Are there there really no aftermarket gamepads out there for the PS3 for bigger hands?

this is the previous design which scraped long time ago ....
but if you knew some insiders or promoting companies which advertise that old prototype design .. you might get lucky ..
depends on the strenght of your social network ..

PS3 is made by Asians for Asian palms size .. lol

I do have my fingers resting above the buttons but I am a lazy bastard who plays PS3 whilst slouching on the sofa so I kept resting the PS3 controller on my leg and accidentally began throwing grenades around. As this never happened with the PS2 for a few minutes I was paranoid that my PS3 was faulty but I was just being a remmy.
