I have an 18-200 and love it dearly. It's my walk about lens on my D300 which I also love dearly.

KenRockwell.com is a good resource for Nikon related opinions.

    His review is here.

$700 is kinda steep, but it's lens you'll keep (unless you go FX or wanto use it with film)

I also have an F6 that I use for film work and really wish a full frame version of this same lens was available.

    Wow. Enjoy!

I've been to many stores to look at prices and many times, my dad will always say, "Hey, the D90 is only $1200." As much as I would like to take up his offer on "only $1200" for a D90, your impulse buy skills are greatly superior to mine.

^^lol. gawd my impulsing buying is beyond ridiculous sometimes. what's even better though, my dad is even worse. he came over to my appt one day and saw i purchased a 46" samsung LCD and PlayStation 3..... 3 days later i go over to his house to watch the steeler game and he has a brand new sony 60" lcd projection with a PlayStation 3. he's the dad so he always has to 1 up me

well the body only was $999. and the guy literally gave me like 8 filters for free. i was playing around the 18-105mm that came with it and it really didn't seem worth the extra $200.
we put off our vacation from December back to March/April due to not being able to get a hotel. so i think i'm going to rent the 18-200mm for the trip and bring my other lenses with me just in case.

hey, if he is paying then get one!

And I think I have made my peace with the 18-200. I guess I just hate it because of the absense of bokeh and it being too slow for low-light indoor shooting. Example below of why I love F2.8 lenses. This is with the 17-55 F2.8G (not a realistic purchase for most, but its a good example of what could be)

yea... such a nice lens but at almost $1200 you either better use it daily or be making money off of it.

The Eclectus, have feathers on their head that are not really feathers. They are more like little hairs. That is what you see in the picture.

I did extensive research for a month or two and still bought it. I returned it within a week - for the reasons I stated already.

It is that much better. Notice the constant aperture through the zoom range, it doesn't change unless you change it.

I'm sorry but I don't agree. His "reviews" are highly opinionated, sensationalized, and void of any factual data most of the time.

If you have a D300 (or even a D90) get a better lens...or you'll be turning out images like a compact. It gets the job done, but doesn't have the fidelity and handling of the better ones.
