Anything with Nortons name on besides Ghost is worthless...you will regret putting it on..You need to not forget about some of the free version programs too. Like AVG also malwarebytes is another nice prog to have along with your antivirus

I personally have always avoided Norton/Symantec, I have always found them very resource intensive. I currently use Nod32 so I cant really comment.

I've been using Kaspersky for a few years now and would never go back to Norton.

I'd go for something free myself, considering there are options out there that are just as good, if not better, than your choices.

For my part I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.

What is free that is better than Kaspersky IS right now? Outpost firewall may have a better firewall than Kas by a tiny bit, but it's just as expensive.

what about NOD32? That's supposed to be the most lightweight but a bit technical to configure.

Of all the many different anti-virus programs, Kaspersky seems to be the cleanest, fastest and most effective. Before that I used NOD32 v2.7 which was excellent - I didn't upgrade to 3.x though because I ended up with a rootkit that I had read only Kaspersky could remove (and even then I had to nuke the drive to get rid of it). I liked NOD32 very much, but now use Kaspersky on account of circumstance, and see no need for an alternative.

    /edit: the rootkit was Win32.Ntldrbot (or Rustock.C)

7.0 had issues with 64 bit Vista, 2009 doesn't. There are other functional differences that make it better as well but I couldn't tell you what they are.

neither ! the only nortons worth getting is "antivirus "only (2009 my fav) we put it on every machine that leaves the shop all other norton's (360.. internet..ect) drag down the machine's

    myself never likes kaspersky

all machines leave here with :
Nortons Antivirus only ...cost but cheap
    Superantispyware ...free
    Adaware 2008 ...free
PC Checkup ...free ( forget about the few it might leave behind no biggie when it takes off 100's and leaves a few 4 or so)
Spywarevanisher ...free if thay want it (and it finds a few others dont)

Meh I hate all resident scanners... resource hogs for nothing, and never catch anything until it's too late. I went back to on demand scanning.

ClamWin is light, open source and doesn't suck down your resources.
Can always use Kaspersky/Avast etc online scanners as backup.

What do you guys think about Bitdefender 2009 Total security?

I bought a license for Bitdefender 2008 Total Security and I had it for about 6 months until I recently reformatted my hardrive. Instead of sticking with the 2008 version, I decided to try the 2009 version, and insofar, it's pissing me off!

First of all, you can't even disable the damn thing! Even if you tell it not to start up on boot up, it does it anyway, and there's no way to simply exit the software from the taskbar like you could with 2008.

So, I've decided to get rid of it, and "down grade" back to either the 2008 version, or something else.

So what do you guys reckon is the best total solution security software?
