Thermalright TRUE all Copper at PPC's

Excuse the sloppy cables, I havent cleaned anything up after putting the board back in because I want to make sure nothing is going to break before I take the time to tidy up. I had to mod the Silverstone fan to make it work with the fan clips.

I installed mine today and it seems to be doing fine on on my 780i motherboard mounted vertical, I had my doubts about installing this monster but she is steady as a rock, I'll check in from time to time and will let you know if the thing rips my CPU socket off the board through the night lol.

it might be fine at first but im pretty sure it won't be good in the long run. maybe a brace that supports it from the top of your case or something to take some of the weight off? might be hard to do tho and still have a good mount. but i believe the highest amd specification for a cpu cooler is like 600g and i think intel is 500g and most aftermarket coolers are already over that and the TRUE copper is quadruple that. would be nice to see pics tho. i want to see a TRUE gold now but that would be around $5000 i bet. and a gold mobo would be amazing if it was possible.

anyone else notice the fins on the TRUE Copper seem thicker than "average" fins?
(thicker than the fins on the XP-90C also)


my guess is this is why its scaling so well with > air flow compared to most HSs

A single 1400RPM fan on this HSF is a mistake, plain and simple. Especially a bad one like the Akasa Amber.

I've decided to release all my data at the end of testing, rather than trickle it out--as it is right now, a casual observer (someone just looking at graphs, or anyone who does not speak English) would get the wrong impression.

I was going to ask if anyone had lapped theirs yet, I am on a stock mounting and not lapped. I wonder if lapping and the washer trick is even needed with this one? This is my first TRUE so I am still noobish about this sink.

I'll be lapping mine once I get full unlapped results done.

Will be comparing to:
HDT-S1284EE, lapped and unlapped, pushpin and hardmounting
TRUE, lapped only (already lapped, can't unlap)
IFX-14, lapped and unlapped.

All 4 will be tested on an E6700 @ 3555MHz (395x9), 1.56v loaded (no, it doesn't need that...I just like making heat) and a QX6700 @ 3160 (395x8), 1.46v loaded (again, doesn't need that kind of volts for that lowly OC, but it's a lot of heat being made and can take temps and be stable up to tMax without issue ).

Assuming all else equal, the QX should make 56% more heat than the E6700, with neither being a lightweight (both run hot...).

On a horizontal mount, a high pressure washer setup did nothing for me on both my TRUE and TRUECu....on a vertical mount, I've seen it help my TRUE, but I won't be testing them vertically.

EDIT: I'll also be testing short load vs. sustained load for temps....I have a feeling on a 'short load' (characteristic of benchmarking, not necessarily crunching, folding, encoding, etc.) the TRUECu will do especially well.

In fact, dual 1300RPM fans on a TRUECu beats dual 2700RPM fans on an IFX-14 by ~2.4C average load and ~1C peak load temp.

This is insane....just wow. If that kind of scaling continues, temps with high-speed fans will be incredibly low--a truly wonderful bench HSF (since it is, IMO, too heavy to mount in a vertical system).

Then I'm not even gonna tell you what a 4600RPM fan pushing 220CFM does for this



Now my testing will be nowhere near Vapors but as soon as I finish I will let you guys know

at least the dead zone doesn't matter as much when the heatpipes are on the sides. maybe if u get one of those vans and mount the TRUE pointing up then you won't have to worry about weight when its on cause it will just propel itself up.

I noticed that with the ultra kaze I got.

too bad there aren't any scroll fans that fit it 120mm spot.

but then you most liekly need a duct to keep it all going into the fins.

So build a shroud Shrouds + fans + heatsink it's gonna end up being like 18" long lol.

When my TRUEcu arrives, I'll be mounting it vertically. To solve the weight problem, what do you guys think if I used clear fishing wire to tie the heatpipe endpoints to the roof of my case?
