7800 btu Ghetto Chiller tops out @ -29c

First off, I'm a HVAC noob.

My 7800 btu "Home Brew" chiller tops out at about -25 thru -29c coolant temp, depending on if the two pumps (swiftech655/alphacool 24v) slow to a crawl sooner than later. The evap is submerged and sealed in a Rubbermaid cooler.

If I leave the chiller on for hours, it will get down to -42c without running the pumps/loop. In this case the temps eventually drop down to about -30c and gradually decline.

    I get about 4c on a qx9650, vcore 1.70, @ 4928mhz.

I have the exposed line from the evap insulated.

I run a second a/c unit to get the room down to about 63f.

    Questions:

    1) Would I get better performance by throwing a heating pad onto the return lines from the evap?

    2) Does keeping the room at 64f and subsequent cool air running over the condenser of the chiller hurt final temps or should I keep that as cool as possible?

    3) Should I tear apart the 10k btu window unit that cools the room and use that instead? Or maybe pick up that cheap $200 dollar 15k 120v unit from City Mill?

    4) Will an IWAKI pump fair better as a chiller pump? Suggestions?
    Thank You gents!

pics? love the ghetto pr0n. I would guess the 10k a/c unit would be better used with its evap submerged in that rubbermaid cooler, unless it's also helping o/c your gpu. which iwaki are you looking at?

LOL the filename path to my uploaded pics get pwned by the XS wordfilters. I'll post up pics here once I get around to making a new path and moving the pics over.

Ideally, I'd like to run the entire loop thru cpu/chipset/and a couple of gx2's.

Not sure which Iwaki. Currently I believe I suffer from severe cold causing the pump to slow to a surging type operation and maybe cavitation inside the pump.

I use an iwaki MD-10L (made in japan). I read somewhere that the american made models of the same line are less efficient (more heat dump). surging/cavitation? - maybe the coolant is getting too thick. what coolant are you running? I use denatured alcohol and distilled water. exact mix depends on low temp reached. I start off with 50/50 at see what happens at low temp: too thick - add more denatured, still pumping smooth - add more distilled water. I put a cup of anti-freeze in, for my mixed metal loop.

With the IWaki pumps you want a RLT model as they are make for high head pressure. Also a Japan motor is more efficent and less heat dump like Plan.B said A 20-40 will be in the right range depending on what all you have restricting it.
Here is a link to most of the pumps they make from a good place I use for my salt tank stuff.

    Hope that helps, MM

I recently put this unit to task on a gtz block |9650@ 4928mhz 1.70vcore| nb block @ 1.4v | 2x 8800ultra Koolance blocks @ 780/1180. Operating temps took a dive from -28c ish to -18c. Yikes! thats bout 12-14c on the proc depending on flow. I think its time to stop by the CityMill and pick up the 115v 12k btu a/c unit, chop and block.

    Looks? Who needs looks?

Took me a few days to figure this one out :P I figured it was some swedish term for ugly being this is an international community, LOL.

Some frosty delight due to too low temps across the a/c unit.
