    Arrow X58 SLI Test: Crysis Warhead vs Far Cry 2

    Next, we checked out the performance of GeForce GTX 280 SLI on the Core i7 965XE/ ASUS P6T Deluxe X58 board setup. We can observe that at "Enthusiast Mode", Crysis Warhead is mostly GPU limited and is almost unplayable at 2560x1600 resolution. For Far Cry 2 with settings at "Ultra High", 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 resolutions are becoming CPU limited while at 2560x1600 resolution, it is balanced between the CPU and GPU. Let us know what benchmarks you would like to see.
    Avg. FPS

    A = 1600x1200

    B = 1920x1200

    C = 2560x1600

    Far Cry 2

    A = 98.71

    B = 91.27

    C = 69.33

    Crysis Warhead

    A = 46.01

    B = 40.12

    C = 16.15

    FAR CRY 2

    • 1600 x 1200

    • 2560 x 1600

    Crysis

    • 1600 x 1200

    • 2560 x 1600

    I'd say that doing Crysis in DX10 was kinda silly. DX9 should have scaled + straight performed better overall... While, you know, looking the same.

    Still, nice to see a direct comparison.

    FC2 with everything on the highest quality, 8xAA (no AA was used on these runs) and 1920x1200, I get an average FPS of 55 in the benchmark tool.

    Crysis was sluggish on High no AA 1680x1050, while Far Cry 2 runs super smooth on same res, but everything to Very High, no AA. And this on an 8800GTS 512. Dunia kicks ass!

    EDIT: Oh, yeah... and this is on 154.24 drivers. Gonna try the 180 ones now.

    Generalizations are, in general, wrong.

    Avg. FPS

    ...

    Crysis Warhead

    B = 40.12

    a 4.2ghz e8400 4GB ddr2 and 4870X2 + 4870 1GB trifire are getting
    about 60FPS avg in Crysis Very High.

    edit:

    dx10 is about the same as the i7/280 sli ~42 FPS (but with 2xAA)

    That's a subjective matter, I actually prefer FC2 graphics more. Of course I can find things that I think look better in Crysis too but I think FC2 have more of the better looking things.

    not saying fc2 IQ is bad. It's just nowhere near as detailed as Crysis. Honestly i only play MP so i dumb down IQ in any game until i get 70 fps. Graphics are not all, but i expected FC2 IQ to be equal to Crysis.

    Crysis looks almost photorealistic in some places. Far Cry 2 looks most of the time like a cartoon. That's a HUGE difference to me.

    Agreed.

    Playing FC2 after Crysis was a bummer.

    i bet farcry 2 was first built for consoles, because the framerates are unusually high for a new game (unlike the original farcry)

    CryEngine 2 can not be compared to Dunia. It's just so much more powerful, which unfortunately makes it a resource hog too.

    nVidia will unveil quad SLI for CryEngine 2 release...to be paired up with its X2 GPUs. There's a good chance you might average 30fps.

    Depends on what they artists are going after. Far Cry 2 is a good looking game regadless and at 16fps Crysis will indeed be a photorealistic slide show.
    Don't get me wrong Crysis is graphically peerless and the best ever. I just still fail to see why you can get 69 vs 16 fps. That's almost 5 times worst off.

    and none of that even makes any diference with the horrible gameplay Far Cry 2 has. I thought Crysis had shallow gameplay, now it seems like heaven to me after playing Far Cry 2 for a couple hours. I do like the engine though, the map editor is meh, its very easy to use, and you can make some awesome stuff fast, but variety is limited.

    Ultimately, the only thing actually impressive to me in Far Cry 2 graphics wise is the sunsets and early morning, the shadows look great and the sun and rays look amazing, rays in my opinion are better than Crysis, cant explain but they seem more realistic. Also, the interiors of Far Cry 2 amazed me alot, very detailed and lighting looks great.

    You're missing around 230.000 pixels in resolution. Can you retest with 1920x1200?
    I'm interested in getting a good comparison.

    FarCry2 gets a little tedious driving around map from point a to b so far. The limited "mail slot" cropped view is also disappointing. Overall I thought it would be a better game.

    I don't know if i'm doing something wrong here, but my FPS aren't that good. I've got all the settings on Very High, but i have to lower the resolution to 1440x900 in order to get playable FPS, and even then if i'm looking through a sniper scope it will drop to 25-30FPS which is laggy.

    I've got a 3.6GHz Q6600 and an 8800GTS 512 at 755/1050 (180 drivers)
